Assam CP&RD Recruitment 2026 – 1508 Vacancies for GRS, GPC, Accredited Engineer & Computer Assistant Posts

The Assam CP&RD Recruitment 2026 has been officially announced vide Advertisement No. E-436421I/1447476/2026, dated 19 February 2026. The Commissionerate of Panchayat and Rural Development (CP&RD), Government of Assam, Panjabari, Guwahati, is inviting online applications from eligible Indian citizens for a massive 1508 contractual posts across four categories: Accredited Engineer (291 posts), Gram Rozgar Sahayak (464 posts), Computer Assistant (291 posts), and Gram Panchayat Coordinator (462 posts). All posts are at the Gram Panchayat (GP) level. The online application portal opened on 22 February 2026 at 9:00 AM and the last date to apply is 22 March 2026 at 11:59 PM. Crucially, there is NO application fee for any category.

This is one of the largest rural employment recruitments announced in Assam in recent times, and it is backed by three of the most significant flagship programmes of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India — the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), and Finance Commission Grants. These are grassroots-level contractual positions that place candidates directly within gram panchayats, enabling them to work on implementation of national rural livelihood programmes. Candidates should note that these are contractual posts tied to the tenure of the flagship programmes — continuation of service beyond the programme tenure is not guaranteed, and no requests for continuation will be entertained. The engagement is renewed after completion of 364 days, subject to satisfactory performance and programme requirement.

Assam CP&RD Recruitment 2026 – Overview

Detail Information
Organisation Name Commissionerate of Panchayat & Rural Development (CP&RD), Government of Assam
Advertisement No. E-436421I/1447476/2026
Notification Date 19 February 2026
Post Names Accredited Engineer (AE), Gram Rozgar Sahayak (GRS), Computer Assistant (CA), Gram Panchayat Coordinator (GPC)
Total Vacancies 1508 Posts
Posting Unit Gram Panchayat (GP) level

Language Requirement Good knowledge of Assamese, English, and Hindi (mandatory)
Office Address Commissioner, P&RD, Assam, Panjabari, Guwahati-37

The contractual nature of these posts deserves careful consideration. Unlike permanent government jobs, these positions are programme-linked: the engagement is active as long as the MGNREGA, PMAY-G, and Finance Commission Grant programmes are operational and funded. These are central government flagship schemes with multi-year allocations and high political priority, making the likelihood of near-term discontinuity low — but candidates must go in with clear expectations. The annual 364-day contract renewal model (rather than a 365-day contract) is a standard practice for contractual government engagements to maintain flexibility. Despite the contractual nature, these roles offer meaningful field experience in rural governance and development programme implementation — valuable for candidates aspiring to higher administrative roles, competitive examinations, or careers in the development sector.

Photograph Alert — A Commonly Overlooked Rule: The notification explicitly requires that the uploaded passport-size photograph must have been taken after 1 January 2026. This is strictly enforced — photographs taken earlier will lead to rejection of the application, since the admit card will be printed using the uploaded photograph. Get your photograph taken at a proper studio (not a selfie or mobile camera photo) with white background, high resolution, JPEG format, between 320×240 and 640×480 pixels, and maximum 100 KB file size. Photograph at studio first, then apply — do not apply first and arrange photo later.

Application Fee

Category Application Fee
General / OBC-MOBC / SC / ST(P) / ST(H) / PH / All Categories NIL – No Application Fee
Payment Mode Not Applicable

The CP&RD Assam Recruitment 2026 has zero application fee for all categories — this is clearly stated in the notification itself (“THERE WILL BE NO APPLICATION FEE”). This removes a common barrier for rural and economically weaker candidates, particularly those in remote parts of Assam who may not have easy access to online payment facilities. Applications are submitted directly through the online portal at www.rural.assam.gov.in. Candidates should not make any payment to any individual or third party claiming to facilitate the application — this recruitment has no fee component and any demand for payment is fraudulent.

Age Limit

Post Minimum Age Maximum Age (UR) SC/ST Relaxation OBC/MOBC Relaxation PH Relaxation
Accredited Engineer 18 years 40 years +5 years (45) +3 years (43) +10 years (50)
Gram Rozgar Sahayak 18 years 40 years +5 years (45) +3 years (43) +10 years (50)
Computer Assistant 18 years 40 years +5 years (45) +3 years (43) +10 years (50)
Gram Panchayat Coordinator 18 years 40 years +5 years (45) +3 years (43) +10 years (50)

The minimum age of 18 years makes this recruitment accessible to candidates immediately after completing their qualifying educational credentials — a relatively low entry bar that opens the doors to a larger applicant pool. The PH (Physically Handicapped) relaxation of 10 years is particularly generous and reflects the Assam government’s commitment to inclusion. Age is to be calculated as on the last date of submission of the online application (22 March 2026). Proof of age must be submitted via Birth Certificate or HSLC Certificate / Admit Card issued by a recognized Board or Council. No other age proof will be accepted.

Gram Panchayat Coordinator (GPC) PMAY-G / Finance Commission Graduate in any discipline from a recognized university/institution with minimum 50% marks; Distance Education (DEC/UGC/AICTE approved) is valid Diploma in Computer Application of minimum 6 months duration (mandatory); well versed in Mobile applications

Key Eligibility Notes

Several important eligibility nuances deserve attention. First, for GRS, CA, and GPC posts, the minimum 50% marks requirement applies to the Bachelor’s degree — below 50% is a disqualifying condition for these three posts. Second, distance education degrees are explicitly valid for GRS, CA, and GPC posts, provided they are approved by DEC (Distance Education Council), UGC, or AICTE — this significantly broadens the eligible pool to include candidates in remote areas of Assam who completed degrees through IGNOU or other distance education institutions. Third, the Diploma in Computer Application is mandatory for all four posts, not merely desirable. However, candidates who hold a Degree in Computer Science / Information Technology or equivalent from a Govt. registered / UGC-recognised institution are considered to already meet this requirement — they may additionally upload a separate computer diploma certificate if they hold one. Fourth, all candidates must have good working knowledge of Assamese, English, and Hindi — this is explicitly stated as a language requirement because these posts require communication with the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. Candidates with only English or only Assamese proficiency may face challenges in the selection process.

Vacancy Details – Post-wise & Category-wise

Total Vacancies 1508

Note: RFW = Reserved for Women (30% of posts in each category). The reservation categories follow Assam government norms: Unreserved, OBC/MOBC, SC, ST(P) — Scheduled Tribes (Plains) at 10%, ST(H) — Scheduled Tribes (Hills) at 5%, SC at 7%, and PH (Physically Handicapped) at 4% (split: 1% Blind/Low Vision, 1% Deaf/Hearing Impaired, 1% Orthopedic, 1% Autism/Intellectual/Mental). The 30% women’s reservation (RFW) applies horizontally across each category — meaning 30% of UR posts, 30% of OBC posts, 30% of SC posts, and so on are reserved for women. With 464 posts, Gram Rozgar Sahayak is the single largest category in this recruitment and will attract the most competitive field. Accredited Engineer, with a higher remuneration of Rs. 18,000/- and the specific Diploma in Civil Engineering requirement, will draw from a narrower talent pool, potentially making the competition proportionately lower.

Selection Process – Assam CP&RD Recruitment 2026

Stage 1: Written Examination (75 Marks – OMR Based)

All candidates whose applications are accepted will be required to appear in a Written Examination conducted at various centres across Assam. There are two separate papers: Paper-1 covers the posts of Gram Panchayat Coordinator, Computer Assistant, and Gram Rozgar Sahayak; Paper-2 covers the post of Accredited Engineer. A candidate who meets the eligibility criteria for both papers may apply separately and appear in both Paper-1 and Paper-2. The written test is completely OMR-based with 75 questions, each carrying 1 mark, for a total of 75 marks. Duration is 2 hours. Candidates must answer using a black ball pen. The examination centre is assigned based on the candidate’s permanent address.

Stage 2: Viva / Interview (25 Marks)

Candidates who qualify the written examination will be shortlisted for a Viva (oral interview) carrying 25 marks. The merit list for final selection will be prepared category-wise for each post based on the combined performance in both the written test and the Viva.

Stage 3: Document Verification & Engagement

The testimonials and documents of selected candidates will be verified by the Selection Committee before the issuance of the engagement letter. All selected candidates must produce their original documents when called. Any discrepancy between uploaded and original documents will result in immediate disqualification without notice. Selected candidates must sign a contract agreement with the authority prior to engagement.

Tie-Breaking Rule

In case of a tie in marks, the candidate older in age will be placed higher in the merit list. If two candidates have the same date of birth and equal marks, they will be ranked according to higher educational qualification. One merit list per category (Unreserved/SC/ST(P)/ST(H)/OBC&MOBC) will be published. A waiting list based on merit order will be maintained and will remain valid for one year from the date of result publication.

Preparation Tips

For GRS, CA, and GPC candidates, the most effective preparation strategy is to spend at least 30–40% of your preparation time on the Domain Knowledge section — specifically MGNREGA and PMAY-G scheme guidelines, which are available on the MoRD website. Candidates who have worked even briefly with rural development schemes (as volunteers, NCC/NSS participants, village level workers, or in any ancillary capacity) should highlight this experience in their interview. For the History & Culture of Assam section, previous year papers of Assam government competitive examinations (APSC, SLRC) are the most targeted resource. For Accredited Engineer candidates, the technical section carries significant weight — focus on MGNREGA-specific civil works (water conservation structures, roads, buildings), as questions will be grounded in the types of works executed under the scheme rather than purely academic civil engineering. The negative marking of 0.25 per wrong answer is significant — avoid guessing on questions where you have no reasonable idea, but do not over-correct by skipping too many questions.

Salary & Monthly Remuneration

Post Monthly Remuneration Nature of Pay
Accredited Engineer Rs. 18,000/- per month Consolidated (Contractual)
Gram Rozgar Sahayak Rs. 15,000/- per month Consolidated (Contractual)
Computer Assistant Rs. 15,000/- per month Consolidated (Contractual)
Gram Panchayat Coordinator Rs. 15,000/- per month Consolidated (Contractual)

The remuneration is a consolidated monthly amount on a contractual basis. Since these are not regular government pay-scale posts, standard Central/State Government allowances like DA, HRA, and Transport Allowance are not separately admissible — the consolidated figure is the total monthly compensation. Candidates should factor this into their financial planning, particularly those in urban areas where living costs are higher. However, for candidates from rural Assam — particularly those from the districts where these GP-level posts will be posted — this remuneration represents a meaningful and stable contractual income, especially combined with the significant work experience and career development value these roles offer. The Accredited Engineer’s differential of Rs. 18,000/- (vs Rs. 15,000/- for others) reflects the technical nature and higher qualification requirement of that role.

Expert Tips to Crack Assam CP&RD Recruitment 2026

1. Get Your Photograph Done Today — Do Not Delay

The requirement that the photograph be taken after 1 January 2026 is absolute. Before doing anything else, visit a proper photography studio, get a studio-quality passport photograph on a white background, and have it saved in JPEG format between 320×240 and 640×480 pixels, within 100 KB. Many applications in similar recruitments are rejected because of poor photograph quality or outdated photos. Take care of this on Day 1.

2. Understand the Post Preference System for Paper-1

Paper-1 covers three posts — Gram Panchayat Coordinator, Computer Assistant, and Gram Rozgar Sahayak. You must submit your post preference within the application itself. Your preference order matters because merit lists are prepared separately per post — you will be considered for your preferred post first. Think carefully about which role suits your background and aspirations: GPC involves coordination of PMAY-G housing implementation and Finance Commission activities; CA focuses on computer-based data management and MIS; GRS is the primary frontline MGNREGA worker at the GP level. All three carry the same remuneration, so your choice should be based on your strengths and long-term interest.

3. Take the Negative Marking Seriously

The negative marking in this exam (0.25 per wrong answer) is applied both for wrong answers and for selecting more than one option in a question. In a 75-mark OMR exam, attempting 60 questions correctly but getting 15 wrong gives you 60 – 3.75 = 56.25. Attempting all 75 with 60 correct and 15 wrong gives the same result. The test-taking strategy should be: attempt confidently only when you have reasonable certainty. For questions where you can eliminate 2 out of 4 options (33% chance), attempting is usually worth it. For complete guesses, skip.

4. Prepare the Domain Knowledge Section Specifically for MGNREGA & PMAY-G

Most general competitive exam candidates prepare well for General Knowledge and Reasoning but underinvest in Domain Knowledge. In this recruitment, domain knowledge is directly tied to the schemes you will implement if selected — MGNREGA, PMAY-G, and Finance Commission Grants. Reading the official scheme guidelines on the MoRD website (Ministry of Rural Development), plus Assam-specific implementation reports, will give you a substantial edge over candidates relying only on general study material.

5. Revise Assam History and Culture — It Is a Dedicated Section

Many candidates from outside Assam or candidates who have not recently revised Assam-specific history may underperform on this section. The History and Culture of Assam section includes Ahom kingdom history, Assamese saints and bhakti movement, colonial history, anti-colonial movements in Assam, and post-independence Assam political history. Standard Assam SLRC and APSC preparation books cover this section effectively. Do not skip it.

6. Accredited Engineer Candidates — Focus on MGNREGA Civil Works, Not Textbook Theory

The technical section for Accredited Engineers will emphasize the types of civil works actually executed under MGNREGA — earthwork, rural roads, water conservation structures (check dams, farm ponds), drainage, and rural sanitation works. While textbook civil engineering basics are foundational, the questions will be grounded in the operational reality of rural India. Familiarize yourself with MGNREGA’s Schedule of Rates, approved works categories, and quality monitoring guidelines — these are freely available on the nrega.nic.in website.
