UPSSSC ASO Recruitment 2026 – Complete Guide for 929 Vacancies
The UPSSSC ASO Recruitment 2026 has been officially announced by the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC), Lucknow through Advertisement No. 05-Pariksha/2026 dated 20 March 2026. This recruitment drive invites online applications from Indian citizens for a total of 929 permanent posts of Sahayak Sankhyikiya Adhikari (Assistant Statistical Officer) and Sahayak Shodh Adhikari (Sankhyiki) [Assistant Research Officer – Statistics] across various departments of the Uttar Pradesh government.
This is a significant opportunity for post-graduates in Mathematics, Statistics, Commerce, Economics, or equivalent disciplines who also cleared the UPSSSC Preliminary Eligibility Test 2025 (PET-2025). The recruitment is being conducted as the Main Examination under the two-tier selection system adopted by UPSSSC, meaning only those who participated in PET-2025 and received a score card are eligible to apply for this Main Exam. Shortlisting for the written Main Exam will be based on PET-2025 normalized scores — 15 times the number of vacancies per category will be shortlisted.
With 929 vacancies spread across 19 different government departments in Uttar Pradesh, this recruitment offers broad career placement opportunities in state statistical services. The posts are Level 6 in the 7th Pay Commission structure with pay ranging from ₹9,300 to ₹1,12,400 depending on the department. The online application window opens 21 April 2026 and closes 11 May 2026. Competition is expected to be intense given the large candidate pool from PET-2025, making early and careful preparation essential.

UPSSSC ASO 2026 – Important Dates
The application window for UPSSSC ASO 2026 is relatively short — just 20 days from 21 April to 11 May 2026. Candidates who apply in the first week benefit from having the maximum buffer time to correct errors (the fee correction/application edit window closes 18 May 2026), avoid last-minute portal crashes, and ensure their PET-2025 registration-based OTP login works without technical issues. A critical point to remember: candidates cannot print their application form until the fee is successfully reconciled. Always reconcile your fee payment immediately after paying — do not wait until the last date, as bank reconciliation can take up to 7 days.

UPSSSC ASO 2026 – Application Fee
One of the most candidate-friendly aspects of UPSSSC ASO 2026 is that the application fee is extremely nominal — just ₹25 online processing fee for all categories including General, OBC, SC, ST, and PwD. There is no separate category-based fee differential for this recruitment. Payment can be made through Credit Card, Debit Card, Internet Banking, UPI, or SBI e-Challan. Importantly, the Main Exam fee (for shortlisted candidates called for the written exam) is separate and will be paid at a later stage — before downloading the admit card. The most common fee payment mistake is not reconciling the transaction after payment, which leaves the application in “Pending” status and prevents printout of the form.
| Category | Application Fee | Online Processing Fee | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unreserved (General) | ₹0 | ₹25 | ₹25 |
| Other Backward Class (OBC) | ₹0 | ₹25 | ₹25 |
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | ₹0 | ₹25 | ₹25 |
| Scheduled Tribe (ST) | ₹0 | ₹25 | ₹25 |
Note: Freedom Fighter dependents, Ex-Servicemen, Women, PwD, and Outstanding Sportspersons from categories 1–4 pay as per their base category. Main Exam fee (for shortlisted candidates only) will be paid separately before admit card download.
UPSSSC ASO 2026 – Age Limit
As per the UP Government Departmental Statistical Service Rules 2012 (Part-4, Rule-10), candidates must be at least 21 years old and must not have completed 40 years of age as on the first July of the calendar year in which vacancies are advertised. For SC, ST, and other categories notified by the government from time to time, the upper age limit is relaxed by the number of years as prescribed. Candidates currently serving in state/central government service are eligible for a 5-year age relaxation in the upper limit as per UP Government order. Chief Minister Fellowship scheme researchers are also eligible for age and discipline relaxation as per the 2026 Niyamavali.
| Category | Minimum Age | Maximum Age | Relaxation |
|---|---|---|---|
| General / UR | 21 Years | 40 Years | None |
| SC / ST / OBC (UP domicile) | 21 Years | As per UP reservation rules | As per government notification |
| State / Central Govt. Employees | 21 Years | 45 Years | 5-year relaxation over general limit |
| PwD (Divyang) | 21 Years | As per UP notification | As per UP Govt. Order dated 18-04-2022 |
UPSSSC ASO 2026 – Eligibility Criteria
There are two components to eligibility for this recruitment: the mandatory educational qualification and the mandatory PET-2025 qualification. Both must be satisfied by the application last date (11-05-2026). The most common mistake candidates make is assuming that any post-graduation is sufficient — the educational qualification is specifically restricted to Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, Statistics, Commerce, Economics, or equivalent post-graduate degree, and a very specific list of 51 qualifying PG degrees has been officially approved (see Annexure-1 of the notification). A degree not in that list will not be accepted, regardless of its general prestige.
Mandatory Educational Qualification
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Minimum Degree | Post-Graduate degree (or equivalent) from a university established by law and recognized by UGC in Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, Statistics, Commerce, Economics, or Sankhyiki (Statistics), OR a degree equivalent as recognized by the government |
| Equivalent Degrees Accepted | 51 specific PG degree combinations listed in Annexure-1 of the official notification (MBA, M.Com, M.Sc. Statistics, M.Sc. Mathematics, M.A. Economics, and many more variants) |
| Additional Mandatory Requirement 1 | DOEACC Society ‘O’ level Computer Diploma, OR at least 1-year Computer Science diploma from any recognized university/institution |
| Additional Mandatory Requirement 2 | Knowledge of Hindi in Devanagari script |
| PET Qualification | Must have participated in PET-2025 and received a score card from UPSSSC |
Preferred / Superseding Qualification (Adhimani Arhata)
In direct recruitment cases where other qualifications are equal, preference will be given to candidates who: (a) have served in the provincial army for a minimum of 2 years, or (b) hold a ‘B’ certificate from the National Cadet Corps (NCC).
| Preference Condition | Details |
|---|---|
| Provincial Army Service | Minimum 2 years of service in the Provincial Army |
| NCC Certificate | Possession of ‘B’ certificate from National Cadet Corps |
UPSSSC ASO 2026 – Department-wise Vacancy Details
The 929 vacancies are spread across 19 different UP government departments, with the largest share in the Finance and Statistics Department, UP (267 posts for general recruitment + 234 via special selection). The Pashupalana Nideshalaya (Animal Husbandry Directorate) has 60 posts, making it the third-largest recruiting department. Expert analysis of this distribution reveals that competition will be highest for the Finance and Statistics Department slots due to their large numbers and central government-level salary parity. Candidates with strong Statistics and Computer proficiency should prioritize these departments when giving preference in the application form.

UPSSSC ASO 2026 – Selection Process
Stage 1: PET-2025 Shortlisting
The first stage of selection has already been completed by candidates who appeared in PET-2025. Shortlisting for the Main Written Exam will be done based on the normalized PET-2025 score. For each category, 15 times the number of vacancies (up to the last cut-off normalized score, rounded to 2 decimal places) will be shortlisted. Candidates who scored zero, negative, or less than zero in PET-2025 (absolute or normalized) will not be shortlisted. Those whose PET-2025 results are under investigation or provisionally marked will be provisionally permitted to apply — their Main Exam participation and final selection will remain subject to the outcome of the ongoing inquiry.
Prep Tip: Check your PET-2025 score card immediately. If your score is above zero, proceed to apply. If your result is provisional or under investigation, you may still apply provisionally — but be aware that your candidature is conditional.
Stage 2: Written Main Examination
The Main Examination consists of a single objective-type question paper with 100 questions carrying 100 marks, to be completed in 2 hours (120 minutes). There is negative marking of ¼ mark (0.25 marks) for every wrong answer — meaning an incorrect response deducts 25% of the question’s marks. This is a significant differentiator from UPTET and many other UP government exams which carry no negative marking. Candidates must therefore not guess randomly. It is better to leave a question unattempted than to mark an uncertain answer. The exam is divided into three parts covering Statistics/Subject Knowledge, Computer and IT Concepts, and UP State General Knowledge.
Prep Tip: Develop a negative marking strategy before the exam. Practice with strict time limits under exam conditions. A good rule: only mark an answer if you are at least 70–80% confident. For completely unknown questions, skip entirely.
Stage 3: Document Verification
After the written exam and result declaration, shortlisted candidates will be called for document verification. Original certificates for educational qualifications, category certificate, PET-2025 score card, age proof (High School certificate only), Computer diploma, and EWS/other applicable certificates must be presented. Any discrepancy found during verification can lead to cancellation of candidature even at this final stage.
Prep Tip: Maintain a dedicated folder with all original certificates and self-attested photocopies. Pay special attention to your Computer diploma — this is a mandatory qualification that many candidates overlook until the last moment.

Preparation Tips (Based on Official Syllabus)
- Statistics (Part 1) carries 80 marks — this is your primary battleground. Focus maximum preparation time here. Standard Deviation, Regression, Index Numbers, and Indian Statistical System (NSO structure) are the most frequently tested topics in similar UPSSSC statistical exams.
- Negative marking changes your strategy fundamentally. Unlike UPTET, each wrong answer here costs 0.25 marks. Avoid random guessing. Develop topic-wise confidence levels during preparation and only attempt questions you are reasonably sure about.
- UP General Knowledge (Part 3 — 20 marks) is time-efficient to prepare. Focus on UP economy, agriculture, current events, and polity. These questions can be prepared in a few weeks using standard UP GK books and recent newspaper reading.
- Computer knowledge (Part 2 — 15 marks) is largely scoring if you have basic IT exposure. Revise MS-Office basics, internet fundamentals, and AI/ML concepts from NCERT or standard computer books. Don’t neglect this section.

Expert Tips to Crack UPSSSC ASO 2026
Apply Before 25 April 2026 — Don’t Wait for the Last Date
The application window is just 20 days (21 April to 11 May 2026). UPSSSC portals are known to slow significantly in the last 48–72 hours due to surge in applications. Apply in the first week — before 25 April if possible — to avoid server issues, fee payment gateway errors, and time pressure. Early applicants also have the full correction window (until 18 May 2026) available for any mistakes, while late applicants may find themselves with no time to fix errors.
Read the Full Notification Before Filling the Form
UPSSSC ASO 2026 has multiple nuances — the EWS certificate date window, the mandatory Computer diploma, the specific list of 51 accepted PG degrees, and the department preference system. A candidate who skips reading the notification may select an ineligible post, forget to get a fresh EWS certificate, or not realize that their PG degree needs to match the approved list in Annexure-1. Thirty minutes of careful reading now can prevent rejection at the document verification stage months later.
Understand the Negative Marking Rule — Adjust Your Exam Strategy
UPSSSC ASO 2026 carries negative marking (¼ per wrong answer), unlike many other UP government exams. This means a candidate who attempts all 100 questions but gets 30 wrong will actually score worse than one who attempts only 70 questions carefully and gets all right. Build your exam strategy around selective, confident answering. In mock tests, practice skipping uncertain questions first and returning to them only if time permits. A target of 65–75 well-chosen correct answers is better than 100 guessed attempts.
Prepare All Documents Before Starting the Application
UPSSSC ASO requires several specific documents that take time to obtain — especially the Computer diploma (if you don’t already have it) and the EWS certificate (which must be issued within the specific date window of 01-04-2026 to 11-05-2026). Start collecting these documents the day you decide to apply. Don’t assume you can submit documents at a later stage — everything must be in place by 11 May 2026.
Begin Exam Preparation with the Official Syllabus — Part 1 First
Part 1 (Statistics and Subject Knowledge) carries 80 of the 100 marks. This is where the exam is won or lost. Master each of the 9 topics in Part 1 thoroughly — especially Central Tendency, Index Numbers, and the Indian Statistical System (NSO structure is a predictable question area). Standard textbooks for M.Sc. Statistics or NIELIT-equivalent material for Computer knowledge are the best preparation resources. For UP GK (Part 3), read a recent UP-specific GK book and follow UP government news from January 2026 onwards.
Stay Updated — Check UPSSSC Website Weekly
UPSSSC does not communicate with candidates individually. All updates — shortlisting lists, exam dates, admit card release, result declaration — are published exclusively on upsssc.gov.in. Bookmark the site and check it at least twice a week from the date you submit your application. Missing the shortlisting announcement or the admit card window due to inattention is a completely avoidable mistake that costs candidates an entire exam cycle.

- Yes. There is a negative marking of ¼ mark (0.25 marks) for every wrong answer. Each question carries 1 mark, so an incorrect answer deducts 0.25 marks from your total. This is an important factor to consider in your exam strategy — avoid guessing answers you are unsure about.
- Q6. What is the exam pattern for UPSSSC ASO Main Exam 2026?
- The exam consists of one question paper with 100 MCQs, 100 marks, and a duration of 2 hours. It is divided into Part 1 (Statistics and Subject Knowledge — 80 marks), Part 2 (Computer and IT — 15 marks), and Part 3 (UP State General Knowledge — 20 marks).
- Q7. What is the age limit for UPSSSC ASO 2026?
- Candidates must be at least 21 years old and must not have completed 40 years of age as on the first July of the advertisement year. Reserved categories are eligible for age relaxation as per UP government rules. State/central government employees get an additional 5-year relaxation.
- Q8. What is the salary after selection as UPSSSC ASO?
- Selected candidates are placed at Pay Level 6 under the 7th Pay Commission. The basic pay ranges from ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400 in most departments (some departments have ₹9,300–₹34,800 with Grade Pay ₹4,200). The estimated gross salary including DA, HRA, and TA is approximately ₹40,000–₹55,000 per month, varying by posting location and department.
- Q9. What happens if my PET-2025 result is under investigation or provisional?
- Candidates whose PET-2025 results are under investigation (UI) or provisionally marked may apply and will be provisionally permitted to appear in the Main Examination. However, their shortlisting for the Main Exam and final selection will remain subject to the outcome of the ongoing inquiry by UPSSSC. A final decision cannot be guaranteed until the inquiry is concluded.
- Q10. Can I apply for more than one department in UPSSSC ASO 2026?
- Only one application is to be submitted for all advertised posts. Within that single application, you indicate your department/post preference order. UPSSSC will attempt to allocate you a department based on your preference, vacancy availability, merit ranking, and educational eligibility. Only one application per advertisement is permitted.
- Q11. What documents are required for UPSSSC ASO 2026 application?
- You need your PET-2025 Registration Number (for login), post-graduate degree certificate, Computer diploma, category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS — if applicable), age proof (Class 10 certificate), and bank/UPI details for fee payment. EWS candidates need a certificate issued specifically between 01-04-2026 and 11-05-2026 covering financial year 2025-26 and valid for 2026-27.
- Q12. Where can I find updates about UPSSSC ASO 2026 exam date and admit card?
- All information including shortlisting lists, exam dates, admit cards, and results will be published exclusively on the official UPSSSC website upsssc.gov.in. UPSSSC does not communicate with candidates individually. Check the website regularly — at least twice a week after submitting your application.
