HPRCA PGT Teacher Recruitment 2026 – Biology, Chemistry, Physics & Commerce | Apply Online
The HPRCA PGT Teacher Recruitment 2026 official notification (Advertisement No. 07/2026) has been released by the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog (HPRCA), Hamirpur, on 07 April 2026. This recruitment invites online applications from eligible candidates for 390 vacancies across four subject-specific teacher posts — Biology (Post Code 26017), Chemistry (Post Code 26018), Physics (Post Code 26019), and Commerce (Post Code 26020) — for engagement in CBSE affiliated Government Schools under the Department of School Education, Government of Himachal Pradesh.
This is a scheme-based direct recruitment governed by the “Scheme for the Engagements of Teachers in Government Schools Affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Fixed Honorarium/Consolidated Amount” notified by the HP Government vide notification No. EDN-B-A(1)-3/2025 dated 01.04.2026. The engagement is for a period of five years on a fixed honorarium of ₹30,000 per month payable for 10 months per academic year — making it one of the most sought-after scheme-based teacher positions in Himachal Pradesh. Selected teachers are not deemed Government employees in any manner; however, the pay, job stability for 5 years, and the prestige of teaching in CBSE-affiliated government schools make this an attractive opportunity for qualified candidates.
Online applications (ORA — Online Recruitment Application) open on 13 April 2026 at 10:00 AM and close on 04 May 2026 at 11:59 PM. Candidates must register on the HPRCA’s One Time Registration (OTR) portal before filling the ORA. The selection is based on a Computer Based Test (CBT) of 120 marks for 1.5 hours. With Commerce having the highest vacancy count at 156 and each of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics carrying 78 vacancies, competition is expected to be moderate to high for Science posts and relatively higher for Commerce given the larger number of applicants in that stream.
Recruitment Overview
HPRCA (Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog) is the official state-level recruitment body for Himachal Pradesh, headquartered at Hamirpur (H.P.) – 177001. It conducts transparent, CBT-based selections for various state government posts. HPRCA’s recruitment process is well-regarded for its structured CBT examination, standardised syllabus, and score normalisation methodology. The fact that this engagement falls under a HP Government-notified scheme — with a 5-year engagement period and fixed honorarium — makes it significantly more secure than typical contractual or guest teacher positions in other states.

Important Dates
The eligibility cut-off date for all candidates is 04 May 2026 (11:59 PM) — the closing date for ORA submission. All essential qualifications, age, and experience must be fulfilled as on this date. An important HPRCA-specific provision is the correction window: a 7-day correction period opens three working days after the closing date, allowing candidates to rectify errors in their ORA upon payment of a ₹100 correction fee. This is a rare but valuable second-chance provision — use it only if absolutely necessary, as the correction fee is non-refundable. Applying error-free in the first instance remains the best strategy.

Application Fee
The application fee structure for HPRCA Advertisement 07/2026 is uniform across all categories. All candidates — regardless of category (UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS, BPL, WFF, PwD) — are required to pay a total fee of ₹800, comprising ₹100 as examination fee and ₹700 as processing fee. Payment must be made exclusively through the Online Payment Gateway using Credit Card, Debit Card, or Net Banking — no other mode is acceptable. Examination and processing fees once paid are non-refundable and cannot be held in reserve for any other examination or selection. A common mistake is candidates assuming that SC/ST/BPL candidates are exempt from fees in HPRCA recruitments — this notification explicitly requires all categories to pay ₹800.
| Category | Examination Fee | Processing Fee | Total Fee | Payment Mode |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| All Categories (UR / SC / ST / OBC / EWS / BPL / WFF / PwD) | ₹100 | ₹700 | ₹800 | Online only — Credit Card / Debit Card / Net Banking |
| Correction Window Fee (if applicable) | Correction fee only | ₹100 | Online Payment Gateway | |
Age Limit & Age Relaxation
The notification specifies a uniform age limit for all categories: minimum 18 years and maximum 45 years, reckoned as on 01 January 2026. This means candidates born between 02 January 1981 and 01 January 2008 are within the eligible age range. Importantly, the age is calculated as on 01.01.2026 — not the ORA closing date — which is a unique feature of HPRCA recruitments that candidates must note carefully. The notification does not specify separate age relaxation figures for SC/ST/OBC/BPL beyond the maximum of 45 years, which suggests the 45-year maximum itself serves as the relaxed upper limit. Candidates must confirm category-specific relaxation from the official notification and annexures.
| Category | Minimum Age | Maximum Age | Age Reckoning Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| All Categories (UR / SC / ST / OBC / EWS / BPL / WFF / PwD) | 18 years | 45 years | 01 January 2026 |
Eligibility Criteria – Post-wise Essential Qualifications
All four teacher posts carry three common essential requirements: (1) a Master’s Degree in the relevant subject with minimum 50% marks in aggregate, (2) proficiency in teaching Hindi and English, and (3) a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) with minimum 50% marks, along with a valid Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) certificate conducted by the HP Board of School Education, Dharamshala, District Kangra, or any other Agency authorised by the HP Government. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PWD categories of H.P. receive a 5% relaxation in minimum educational qualifications.
A critical domicile condition applies: the candidate shall be eligible for engagement only if he/she has passed Matriculation and 10+2 from any School/Institution situated within Himachal Pradesh. This condition does not apply to Bonafide Himachalis. Candidates from reserved categories of other states are treated as General (UR) candidates and are not eligible for HP-specific reservation benefits or fee concession. The most common eligibility mistake is applying without a valid HP TET certificate or possessing a TET from another state board — only HP TET or a Government-authorised agency TET is accepted.
| Post | Post Code | Master’s Degree Subject | B.Ed. Required? | TET Required? | Min. % (UR) | Min. % (SC/ST/OBC/PWD of HP) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Teacher (Biology) | 26017 | Botany / Zoology / Life Sciences / Microbiology / Bio-Technology / Molecular Bio / Plant Physiology (provided Botany & Zoology studied at Graduation level) | Yes — B.Ed. with min. 50% | Yes — HP TET | 50% | 45% |
| Teacher (Chemistry) | 26018 | Chemistry / Biochemistry | Yes — B.Ed. with min. 50% | Yes — HP TET | 50% | 45% |
| Teacher (Physics) | 26019 | Physics / Electronics / Nuclear Physics | Yes — B.Ed. with min. 50% | Yes — HP TET | 50% | 45% |
| Teacher (Commerce) | 26020 | Accountancy / Financial Accountancy / Income Tax / MFC (Master of Finance Control) | Yes — B.Ed. with min. 50% | Yes — HP TET | 50% | 45% |
Post-wise Vacancy Details
The total of 390 vacancies is distributed across four subject posts. Teacher (Commerce) has the highest count at 156 vacancies — exactly double that of each science subject post — which reflects the growing need for Commerce teachers in CBSE-affiliated HP Government schools. Each science post (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) carries 78 vacancies. Within each post, the category breakdown shows Gen(UR) as the largest group, followed by SC(UR), OBC(UR), and EWS. The WFF (Wards of Freedom Fighters) category has 1 vacancy per science post and 2 for Commerce. SC(BPL), OBC(BPL), and ST(BPL) categories also have reserved slots. Candidates should note that vacancies are tentative and may increase or decrease based on fresh requisitions received up to 31.07.2026 or the date of the CBT examination, whichever is earlier.
| Post | Code | Gen(UR) | EWS | Gen(WFF) | SC(WFF) | SC(UR) | SC(BPL) | OBC(UR) | OBC(BPL) | ST(UR) | ST(BPL) | Total |

| Total | 140 | 50 | 05 | 04 | 76 | 15 | 64 | 15 | 15 | 05 | 390 | |
WFF = Wards of Freedom Fighters | BPL = Below Poverty Line | OBC = Other Backward Classes of HP | SC/ST of HP only. All vacancies are tentative.
Selection Process
The selection for HPRCA PGT Teacher Recruitment 2026 is based entirely on a Computer Based Test (CBT) / Written Screening Test. There is no interview, physical test, or group discussion stage. The CBT carries 120 marks for a duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes (1½ hours). Understanding the selection mechanics — particularly the merit-cum-option formula and the waiting panel rules — is essential for candidates who want to plan their post-selection strategy.
Stage 1: Computer Based Test (CBT) / OMR Screening Test
The CBT consists of 120 multiple-choice questions, each carrying 1 mark. There is no mention of negative marking in the official notification. The paper is divided into two broad sections: subject-specific questions and general questions. The minimum qualifying marks for the written screening test are 45% for General category candidates and 40% for SC/ST/OBC/WFF candidates. If fewer candidates secure these marks than the advertised posts, HPRCA may relax the qualifying percentage by up to 5% (i.e., 40% for General and 35% for reserved categories). In multi-shift CBT scenarios, scores are normalised using the Z-Score Method (Mean and Standard Deviation Method).
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Total Marks | 120 |
| Duration | 1 hour 30 minutes (1½ hours) |
| Question Type | Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) — objective type |
| Marks per Question | 1 mark each |
| Negative Marking | Not mentioned in official notification |
| Mode | Computer Based Test (CBT) or OMR (if number of candidates is limited) |
| Language | As per notification (English/Hindi — HPRCA standard) |
| Min. Qualifying Marks (UR/General) | 45% (54 out of 120) — relaxable to 40% if required |
| Min. Qualifying Marks (SC/ST/OBC/WFF) | 40% (48 out of 120) — relaxable to 35% if required |
| Score Normalisation | Z-Score Method (Mean & SD Method) for multi-shift CBT |
Stage 2: Merit-Cum-Option-Cum-Availability Allocation
After the CBT, merit lists are prepared category-wise. Post/district allocation is done on the basis of the “Merit-Cum-Option-Cum-Availability of Post” formula. At the time of documentation, candidates will be required to exercise their preference for districts/departments in writing. A meritorious reserved category candidate who qualifies on relaxed standards is considered under their respective reserved category and is not available for consideration against unreserved vacancies.
Stage 3: Document Verification
Shortlisted candidates are called for document verification, where all original certificates and self-attested photocopies must be produced. The downloaded/printed copy of the online application form along with original certificates must be brought at the time of document verification. Eligibility is determined based on original documents only. Failure to produce valid category certificates at the time of documentation leads to automatic downgradation to the UR/General category, subject to depositing the differential fee and qualifying the cutoff marks.
A waiting panel is also maintained: for posts up to 25, the panel is 25% (minimum 2 candidates); for posts between 25 to 50, it is 15% (minimum 7); for posts above 50, it is 10% (minimum 8 candidates). The waiting panel remains valid for one year from the date of recommendation.
Exam Syllabus & Pattern
The official syllabus for the CBT is specified in the notification. The objective-type screening test consists of 120 multiple-choice questions of 1 mark each. The syllabus is divided into two sections — subject-specific content and general aptitude/awareness. HPRCA has noted that a detailed syllabus may be issued on its official website in due course of time.
Exam Pattern
| Section | Content | Standard / Level | Marks (Approx.) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Section (i) — Subject Specific | Subjects/fields up to the level of the prescribed essential qualification as notified in the advertisement | Master’s Degree level (relevant subject) | Majority of 120 marks |
| Section (ii) — General | (a) General Knowledge including General Knowledge of Himachal Pradesh, Current Affairs | General / Current Events | Remaining marks of 120 |
| (b) Everyday Science, Logical Reasoning, Social Science, General English & General Hindi | Matriculation Standard |
Subject-wise Preparation Focus
- Teacher (Biology) — Post Code 26017: Focus on Botany and Zoology at Master’s level — cell biology, genetics, ecology, plant physiology, zoology systematics. The notification requires Botany and Zoology to have been studied at Graduation level, so ensure graduate-level topics are also covered. HP-specific biodiversity and ecology questions may feature in the GK section.
- Teacher (Chemistry) — Post Code 26018: Cover Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry at M.Sc. level. Biochemistry topics are also relevant given the subject acceptance. Emphasise reaction mechanisms, spectroscopy, and coordination chemistry for the technical section.
- Teacher (Physics) — Post Code 26019: Master’s level Physics covering classical mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, optics, thermodynamics, and nuclear physics. Electronics and Nuclear Physics are accepted Master’s subjects, so candidates from those streams should cover their own discipline deeply.
- Teacher (Commerce) — Post Code 26020: Accountancy, Financial Management, Income Tax, and MFC at Master’s level. Cover advanced financial accounting, corporate accounting, auditing, and Indian tax laws. The general section will include current affairs with emphasis on HP economy and financial news.
- General Section (All Posts): HP-specific GK is a differentiator — study HP history, geography, culture, government schemes, and current HP state news. Everyday Science at Matric level, basic English grammar, and simple logical reasoning round out this section.
Honorarium / Salary Details
The engaged teachers will receive a fixed honorarium of ₹30,000 per month, payable for 10 months in an academic year, under the HP Government’s scheme for CBSE school teacher engagements. The annual gross honorarium works out to ₹3,00,000 per year (10 months × ₹30,000). Candidates must understand that this is an honorarium-based scheme engagement — not a regular government service appointment. Government medical rules for reimbursement claims shall not apply, standard service rules (CCS/CCA/Leave Rules/Pension Rules) are not applicable, and the engagement period shall not be counted for any purpose of service benefits.
However, a 5-year guaranteed engagement in a CBSE-affiliated government school in Himachal Pradesh, combined with the fixed ₹30,000/month honorarium and the professional experience of teaching at a government CBSE school, provides significant career value — especially for candidates aspiring to permanent HP Government teacher posts in subsequent recruitment cycles where experience is a differentiating factor.
| Post Name | Monthly Honorarium | Months Payable per Year | Annual Honorarium | Engagement Period |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Teacher (Biology) — Post Code 26017 | ₹30,000 | 10 months | ₹3,00,000 | 5 Years |
| Teacher (Chemistry) — Post Code 26018 | ₹30,000 | 10 months | ₹3,00,000 | 5 Years |
| Teacher (Physics) — Post Code 26019 | ₹30,000 | 10 months | ₹3,00,000 | 5 Years |
| Teacher (Commerce) — Post Code 26020 | ₹30,000 | 10 months | ₹3,00,000 | 5 Years |

- OTR (One Time Registration) credentials — pre-register at https://hprca.hp.gov.in
- Step 1 — Sign Up on HPRCA Portal: Visit https://hprca.hp.gov.in and click “Sign Up” to create a username and password on the HPRCA portal.
- Step 2 — Complete One-Time Registration (OTR): After sign-up, complete the OTR by providing personal information, educational qualifications, work experience (if any), uploading a recent photograph and signature, and uploading relevant supporting documents. This OTR information is stored in your profile for future applications as well.
- Step 3 — Complete/Update Profile: Only users with a fully completed profile can apply for posts. If any updates are needed (qualification, contact details), edit your profile before proceeding.
- Step 4 — Apply for the Post: Log in and view the list of available posts on the HPRCA portal. Click the “Apply” button for the desired post (Biology / Chemistry / Physics / Commerce). Submit only ONE application per post — multiple applications for the same post by a candidate are liable to be rejected.

- Step 8 — Download Confirmation: Take a printout of the completed ORA for future reference. The downloaded copy along with original certificates must be produced at the time of document verification.
- Uploading a photograph older than 1 month — the notification strictly requires a recent photograph not older than 1 month; older photos are a common rejection trigger at the ORA scrutiny stage.
- Submitting without a valid HP TET certificate — applying with a TET certificate from another state board (e.g., CTET alone without HP TET) does not meet the eligibility requirement for this specific notification.
- Providing incorrect category — the category once claimed cannot be changed after the correction window closes; entering a wrong category means losing reservation benefits or paying differential fees later at document verification.
Important Instructions for Candidates
- ✔ Double-check every field — especially name (as per Matric certificate), date of birth, category, and qualification details — before submitting. No correction is permitted after the correction window closes.
- ✔ Keep all scanned documents ready before opening the ORA form; interruptions during the upload process frequently lead to incomplete submissions that are rejected outright.
- ✔ All dates — including CBT date, admit card release, and documentation schedule — are subject to change; check https://hprca.hp.gov.in regularly for updates.
- ✔ Use your own valid mobile number and email ID — all communications (roll numbers, admit cards, call letters) will be sent via these channels and through the official HPRCA website only.
- ✔ Candidates in regular Government service must submit a declaration to their Head of Office/Department that they have applied; failure to do so may result in application rejection if their employer withholds permission.

Expert Tips to Crack HPRCA PGT Teacher Recruitment 2026
1. Register on OTR Portal Well Before 13 April — Don’t Wait for ORA Opening Day
The One Time Registration (OTR) portal at https://hprca.hp.gov.in can be completed even before the ORA opens on 13 April 2026. Completing your OTR in advance means that when the ORA opens, you can apply in minutes without the pressure of uploading documents under time pressure. The HPRCA portal has historically experienced high traffic on the first day of ORA opening — candidates who have pre-registered face significantly fewer technical difficulties. Use the OTR to upload your photograph, signature, and key documents now so they are ready in your profile.
2. Verify Your HP TET Certificate Validity Before Applying
This is the single most important eligibility checkpoint for HPRCA teacher posts. The notification explicitly requires a TET conducted by the HP Board of School Education (HPBOSE), Dharamshala, District Kangra, or any other Agency authorised by the Government of Himachal Pradesh. A CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) certificate alone is not automatically sufficient — verify whether CTET is currently accepted by the HP Government as an authorised TET equivalent before applying. Candidates who have cleared only CTET should confirm this from the official HPRCA notification Annexure or the HPRCA helpdesk before submitting their ORA.
3. Prepare All Documents Before Starting the ORA
The ORA checklist includes: Matriculation certificate (age proof + HP domicile condition), all Master’s degree marks sheets and certificates, B.Ed. certificate with marks, HP TET certificate, category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/BPL/WFF) in prescribed HP Government format, and a recent passport-size photograph (not older than 1 month). Experience certificates, if any, must be duly verified and counter-signed by a Government Authority/Departmental Officer. Missing even one document at the document verification stage — despite clearing the CBT — results in automatic disqualification. Prepare a physical envelope with all originals and three sets of self-attested photocopies now.
4. Focus on Himachal Pradesh-Specific GK in Your CBT Preparation
The general section of the CBT specifically mentions “General Knowledge of Himachal Pradesh” as a distinct topic. HP-specific questions — covering HP history (including its formation, districts, rivers, peaks), HP Government schemes (Himcare, Mukhyamantri Swavlamban Yojana, etc.), current HP political and administrative affairs, and HP geography — feature prominently in HPRCA examinations. Candidates who neglect HP GK and focus only on their subject and national current affairs are at a clear disadvantage compared to those who have studied HP-specific content systematically. Dedicate at least 30% of your general section preparation time to HP-specific topics.
5. Avoid the Most Common Rejection Reasons at Document Verification
Based on typical HPRCA recruitment patterns, the most frequent document verification rejection reasons include: OBC certificate in State Government format instead of the prescribed HP Government format; BPL certificate that is not counter-signed by the Block Development Officer; EWS certificate not valid for the current financial year (the EWS certificate must be valid as on the ORA closing date and the date of document verification); and experience certificates that are not verified/counter-signed by a Government Authority. Prepare all certificates in the correct HP Government format and get them verified well before the documentation date.
6. Monitor the HPRCA Website for CBT Date, Admit Card & Answer Key
After submitting the ORA, the next critical date is the admit card release. HPRCA does not send admit cards by post — they are available for download exclusively through the HPRCA portal at https://hprca.hp.gov.in using your Application ID, Name, and Date of Birth. An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile/email for downloading the admit card. After the CBT, the provisional answer key will be uploaded on the official website and candidates will have 7 days to raise objections (with a non-refundable fee of ₹200 per challenge). Monitor https://hprca.hp.gov.in at least twice a week after submitting your ORA to avoid missing any critical update.

All certificates must be in the prescribed format, failing which candidature is liable to be rejected.
