UPSSSC Fireman Recruitment 2026 – 170 Vacancies for Vidhan Bhavan Rakshak & Agnik/Agni Rakshak Posts

The UPSSSC Fireman Recruitment 2026 has been officially announced by the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC), Lucknow, through Advertisement No. 09-Pariksha/2026 published on 10 April 2026. This notification invites online applications from eligible Indian citizens for a combined total of 170 vacancies — comprising 120 posts of Vidhan Bhavan Rakshak (Council House Guard) and 50 posts of Vidhan Bhavan Agnik/Agni Rakshak (Fireman/Fire Guard) — both under the Sachivalaya Prashasan Vibhag (Secretariat Administration Department), Government of Uttar Pradesh.

This is a direct recruitment to Group C posts at Pay Level-3, offering a minimum basic pay of Rs.21,700 and a maximum of Rs.69,100. For candidates who have already appeared in the UPSSSC Preliminary Eligibility Test 2025 (PET-2025) and received a score card, this is a significant opportunity to secure a permanent and temporary government job with one of the most recognised departments in the state. The minimum educational qualification is passing the Madhyamik (Class 10) or equivalent examination — making this one of the most accessible government job opportunities in UP for 2026.

It is important to note that only candidates who have participated in PET-2025 and have been issued a score card by UPSSSC are eligible to apply for this Main Examination. Candidates who scored zero, negative, or below zero in PET-2025 will not be shortlisted. Given the large pool of PET-qualified candidates in Uttar Pradesh and the relatively modest vacancy count of 170, competition is expected to be intense. Applying early, preparing thoroughly, and ensuring complete document readiness will be decisive factors in this recruitment.

Recruitment Overview

UPSSSC is one of the most active and credible recruitment bodies in Uttar Pradesh, responsible for conducting competitive examinations for Group B and Group C posts across state government departments. The Sachivalaya Prashasan Vibhag, under which these vacancies fall, is one of the most prestigious employing departments in UP state government, adding significant career value to selected candidates. Selections made through UPSSSC carry strong job security, transparent processes, and structured career progression — qualities that make this recruitment particularly attractive for candidates seeking long-term stability in a government role.

Important Dates

One of the most important habits a Sarkari job aspirant can cultivate is applying in the very first week of the application window. The UPSSSC portal, like most government portals, experiences high traffic in the final 48–72 hours before the deadline, leading to slowdowns, payment failures, and last-minute panic. The application window for this recruitment opens on 09 June 2026. Candidates should have all their documents ready well before that date and submit on Day 1 or Day 2. Additionally, note that the fee reconciliation and correction window extends to 06 July 2026 — this is not for new applications, but only for fee reconciliation and permitted corrections to already submitted forms.

Application Fee

The application fee structure for this recruitment is notably candidate-friendly. The application fee itself is Rs.0 (zero) for all categories. However, all candidates are required to pay an online processing fee of Rs.25, making the total payable amount just Rs.25 regardless of category. This is one of the most accessible fee structures in UP government recruitment. Payment can be made through Credit Card, Debit Card, Internet Banking, UPI, or SBI e-Challan through the official UPSSSC portal. A common and avoidable mistake is attempting payment on the last day — bank gateway failures and portal timeout errors are common near deadlines. Always complete fee payment at least 3 days before 29 June 2026. Note that the main examination fee is a separate charge, applicable only to candidates who are shortlisted for the written exam, and must be paid before downloading the main exam admit card.

S.No. Category Application Fee Online Processing Fee Total Payable
1 Unreserved (General) Rs.00 Rs.25 Rs.25
2 OBC Rs.00 Rs.25 Rs.25
3 SC (Scheduled Caste) Rs.00 Rs.25 Rs.25
4 ST (Scheduled Tribe) Rs.00 Rs.25 Rs.25

Age Limit

As per the notification, candidates must be at least 18 years old and must not have exceeded 40 years of age as of 01 July of the advertisement year — i.e., 01 July 2026 for this recruitment. This means General/EWS category candidates born between 02 July 1986 and 01 July 2008 (inclusive) fall within the eligible age range. Age is verified strictly from the date of birth recorded in the High School (Class 10) or equivalent board certificate — no other document will be accepted for this purpose. Reserved category candidates domiciled in Uttar Pradesh receive standard UP Government age relaxation. It is worth noting that candidates claiming Mukhyamantri Abhyatavrutti scheme relaxation must produce proof as per the UP Government’s notification dated 30 January 2026 for this benefit to apply.

Category Minimum Age Maximum Age Relaxation
General / EWS 18 Years 40 Years Nil
OBC (UP Domicile) 18 Years 43 Years +3 Years
SC / ST (UP Domicile) 18 Years 45 Years +5 Years
State Govt. In-service Employees 18 Years 45 Years +5 Years
PwD / Retrenched Employees 18 Years As per UP Govt. rules As per UP Govt. rules

Eligibility Criteria

The mandatory educational qualification for both posts under UPSSSC Fireman Recruitment 2026 is a pass in the Madhyamik (Class 10) examination or a state government-recognised equivalent. This must be from the Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, UP, or an equivalent board recognised by the government. A very common eligibility mistake is confusing “Madhyamik” (Class 10) with “Intermediate” (Class 12) — this recruitment requires Class 10 pass only, making the applicant pool significantly larger and the competition accordingly higher. Additionally, candidates must possess a valid PET-2025 score card with a non-zero/non-negative normalised score. Without this, the application portal will not allow submission. The notification also provides a preferential (Adhimani) qualification: candidates who have served a minimum of 2 years in the Pradeshik Sena (Territorial Army) or who hold an NCC ‘B’ Certificate will be given preference in direct recruitment selection when all other conditions are equal.

Final-year appearing candidates are not eligible. All mandatory qualifications must be fully acquired and in the candidate’s possession by the application closing date of 29 June 2026.

Post Name Mandatory Educational Qualification Preferential Qualification PET Requirement
Vidhan Bhavan Rakshak Pass in Madhyamik (Class 10) from UP Board or recognised equivalent Min. 2 years Pradeshik Sena service OR NCC ‘B’ Certificate PET-2025 score card (non-zero/non-negative score mandatory)
Vidhan Bhavan Agnik / Agni Rakshak Pass in Madhyamik (Class 10) from UP Board or recognised equivalent Min. 2 years Pradeshik Sena service OR NCC ‘B’ Certificate PET-2025 score card (non-zero/non-negative score mandatory)

Vacancy Details

The total notified vacancy is 170 posts across two designations. Vidhan Bhavan Rakshak has 120 vacancies (permanent and temporary) and Vidhan Bhavan Agnik/Agni Rakshak has 50 vacancies (temporary). The UR category holds the largest share at 51 and 26 vacancies respectively, meaning General category candidates face the highest absolute competition. EWS candidates must ensure their certificate is issued between 01-04-2026 and 29-06-2026, based on FY 2025-26 income. Horizontal reservation provides an additional layer of vacancies for Women (24 and 10 respectively), Ex-Servicemen/Defence personnel (6 and 2), and Outstanding Sportspersons (2 and 1). These horizontal reservations are distributed across the vertical categories — they do not represent additional posts.

Selection Process

The selection for Vidhan Bhavan Rakshak and Vidhan Bhavan Agnik/Agni Rakshak follows a multi-stage process as prescribed in the UP Sachivalaya Suraksha aur Agnishaman Sewa Niyamavali, 2000 (amended up to 2023). The most critical point candidates must understand is this: the written exam is the sole basis for final merit. The physical standards check is qualifying (pass/fail) only — it does not add marks. Many candidates mistakenly assume that being physically fit is the main challenge; it is not. The written exam score decides selection, and the physical test only screens out those who are unfit. Every preparation hour should be focused accordingly.

Stage 1: PET-2025 Score-Based Shortlisting

Only PET-2025 qualified candidates with a valid score card and a non-zero/non-negative score can apply. Shortlisting for the Main Exam is done based on normalised PET-2025 scores. The shortlist ratio is 15 candidates per vacancy (category-wise). If the exam is held across multiple shifts/days, normalisation procedures as per the UPSSSC notice dated 22 May 2019 will be applied. Check your PET-2025 score card carefully and ensure your PET registration details are intact.

Stage 2: Main Written Examination

A single objective (MCQ) paper of 100 questions carrying 100 marks, to be completed in 2 hours (120 minutes). Negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer applies. The written exam merit list is the final selection basis. Do not wait for the admit card to start preparation — begin studying on the day you submit your application. Focus particularly on UP General Knowledge (20 marks) and Indian Polity and Constitution (10 marks), which are the highest-value predictable scoring areas.

Stage 3: Physical Standards Measurement (Qualifying)

Candidates shortlisted from the written exam merit list undergo a physical measurement check conducted by UPSSSC. Male candidates must meet height and chest measurements; female candidates must meet height and weight requirements. This stage is mandatory and qualifying — failing it eliminates the candidate regardless of written exam performance. Verify your measurements against the official physical standards table well before the exam process begins.

Stage 4: Document Verification

Original documents — educational certificates, caste certificates, EWS certificate, PwD certificate, preferential qualification certificates (if claimed), and identity proof — are verified at the appropriate stage. Any mismatch or missing document leads to disqualification. Prepare all originals and attested photocopies in the correct prescribed formats (as per the appendices in the official notification) well in advance.

Success in this recruitment demands consistent performance across every stage. Candidates who clear the written exam but face document rejection have wasted months of effort over problems that could have been resolved during the application window. Use the period between application submission and the exam date to sort every document detail — it is time well spent.

Exam Syllabus & Pattern

The complete exam plan and syllabus for the UPSSSC Fireman / Vidhan Bhavan Rakshak Main Examination (Written Exam) is fully detailed in the official notification. This is a single-paper examination with 100 objective/MCQ questions, 100 total marks, and a 2-hour (120-minute) duration. Every correct answer scores 1 mark. There is a negative marking provision of 0.25 marks (one-fourth) deducted for each wrong answer. Unattempted questions carry no penalty.

  • Geographical landscape and environment, natural resources, climate, soil, forests, wildlife, mines and minerals of UP.
  • Economy, agriculture, industry, business and employment in UP.
  • Polity and administration of UP, current events, and achievements of the state in various fields.

Preparation Tips Based on Official Syllabus

  • Prioritise Part-3 (UP GK – 20 marks): This is the single highest-scoring section in the exam. Cover UP history, culture, geography, and economy from standard UP Board textbooks and follow UP-specific current affairs daily from credible Hindi news sources. Do not neglect this section — it is where Uttar Pradesh-based candidates have a natural edge.
  • Master Part-2 (Computer IT – 15 marks): This section is highly predictable. Cover basic computer fundamentals, MS Office, Internet basics, Digital India initiatives, and emerging technologies like AI and IoT. Two to three weeks of consistent study should be sufficient to score near-full marks here.
  • Balance Part-1 subjects strategically: Indian Polity/Constitution (10) and History/National Movement (10) are the highest-weighted Part-1 subjects — prioritise these first. Then cover General Science (10), Environmental Ecology (10), and Current Events (10). Geography (5) and Sports (5) can be covered last as revision topics.

Physical Standards (Sharirik Maan Dand)

The physical standards measurement is a mandatory qualifying stage in the UPSSSC Fireman Recruitment 2026 selection process. While it does not contribute marks to the merit list, failing it disqualifies the candidate entirely — even if they have cleared the written examination. The physical test is organised by UPSSSC and is qualifying in nature. Candidates should take this stage seriously from the day they apply, as certain measurements (particularly height) cannot be altered, and knowing your numbers early prevents last-minute surprises.

Physical Standards for Male Candidates

Category Minimum Height Chest (Unexpanded) Minimum Chest Expansion
General / OBC / SC 168 cm 84 cm Minimum 5 cm
ST (Scheduled Tribe) 160 cm 82 cm Minimum 5 cm

Physical Standards for Female Candidates

Category Minimum Height Weight
General / OBC / SC 152 cm 45 kg to 58 kg
ST (Scheduled Tribe) 147 cm 45 kg to 58 kg

Salary & Pay Scale

Both Vidhan Bhavan Rakshak and Vidhan Bhavan Agnik/Agni Rakshak posts are placed at Pay Level-3 under the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix, with a minimum basic pay of Rs.21,700 and a maximum basic pay of Rs.69,100. In addition to basic pay, selected candidates are entitled to Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Travel Allowance (TA), and other applicable allowances as per UP State Government norms. The estimated gross monthly salary at entry level (including DA, HRA, and other standard allowances) is approximately Rs.28,000–Rs.35,000, depending on posting location and applicable HRA city classification. Deductions under the New Pension System (NPS) and professional tax will apply. Compared to a similar-level central government Group C post, this UP secretariat posting offers equivalent pay with the additional benefit of a prestigious state capital posting location.

Post Name Pay Level Basic Pay (Min) Basic Pay (Max) Gross Salary (Approx.)
Vidhan Bhavan Rakshak Level-3 Rs.21,700 Rs.69,100 Rs.28,000–35,000/month (approx.)
Vidhan Bhavan Agnik / Agni Rakshak Level-3 Rs.21,700 Rs.69,100 Rs.28,000–35,000/month (approx.)

Candidates selected in permanent posts will be covered under the NPS pension scheme. The Sachivalaya (Secretariat) posting in Lucknow provides access to all state capital government facilities. Career advancement through departmental examinations and seniority-based promotion can lead to higher pay levels over a full service career. This government role offers not just a monthly income but long-term financial security, medical coverage, and social prestige — substantial advantages over contractual or private-sector employment for the same qualification level.

Important Instructions for Candidates

Expert Tips to Crack UPSSSC Fireman Recruitment 2026

Apply in the First Week

The application window runs from 09 June to 29 June 2026 — just 20 days. This is shorter than many comparable UP government recruitments. Do not postpone. UPSSSC portal traffic surges dramatically in the last 3–4 days of any application window. Fee payment gateways experience failures, and form submission errors become common. Target submission between 09–13 June 2026. Early submission also gives you the full correction window (up to 06 July) to fix any errors you notice in your form after submission.

Read the Full Notification Before Filling the Form

This is a 33-page notification containing detailed eligibility conditions, reservation rules, physical standards, the full exam syllabus, and important instructions. Many candidates skim the short advertisement and miss critical requirements — especially the EWS certificate date requirement, the PET-2025 score eligibility bar, and the fact that non-UP domicile candidates do not receive reservation benefits. Read the full PDF notification carefully, highlight every condition that applies to your situation, and only then start filling the online form.

Prepare All Documents Before Starting the Application

While the photo and signature are pre-loaded from PET-2025, you will still need to input details from your Class 10 certificate, category certificate, EWS certificate, and any preferential qualification certificates during the application. Gather all documents — originals and attested photocopies — before opening the form. Ensure category certificates are current, valid, and in the exact prescribed format (proformas are provided in the notification appendices). A certificate in the wrong format will be rejected at document verification even if the underlying eligibility is genuine.

Begin Exam Preparation from Day One

The exam date has not been announced, giving candidates a preparation window of potentially 2–6 months after the application deadline. This is an advantage — use it. The complete syllabus is available in this notification; there is no reason to wait. Begin with Part-3 (UP GK, 20 marks) and Part-2 (Computer IT, 15 marks) — these two parts alone account for 35 out of 100 marks and are the most predictable. Solve previous UPSSSC papers from similar exam cycles to understand question difficulty. Set daily study targets and track your progress weekly.

Verify Your Physical Standards Early

The physical measurement test cannot be taken lightly. Failing it means disqualification even after clearing the written exam. Male candidates should verify their height and chest measurements against the notified standards (168 cm height, 84 cm chest with 5 cm expansion for General/OBC/SC). Female candidates must confirm height (152 cm for General/OBC/SC) and weight (45–58 kg). If you are borderline on any measurement, address it now — not after the admit card arrives. Chest expansion can be improved through consistent breathing exercises and cardio training over 2–3 months.

Stay Updated on Admit Card, Result, and Cut-off Dates

After submitting your application, make upsssc.gov.in a regular bookmark. UPSSSC publishes all updates — shortlist notices, admit cards, exam schedules, results, and cut-offs — exclusively on the official website. The commission does not send individual SMS or email reminders (except OTPs for login). Check the website at least twice a week after the application window closes. Also keep your registered mobile number and email active throughout the entire recruitment cycle, as OTP-based portal access will be needed at multiple stages.
