MP Police Constable Band Recruitment 2026 – 679 Vacancy

MP Police Constable Band Recruitment 2026 – 679 Vacancies, Apply Online by April 19

The MP Police Constable Band Recruitment 2026 notification has been officially released by the Office of the Inspector General of Police (Visbal), Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal. A total of 679 vacancies have been advertised for the post of Constable (Band) — Aarak — across various police units throughout Madhya Pradesh. This is a state-level recruitment for male candidates who possess proficiency in playing musical instruments. Online applications are being accepted from April 5, 2026, and the last date to apply is April 19, 2026. This is a short application window of just 14 days, so candidates must act immediately.

What makes this recruitment uniquely valuable is the combination of a government police job with a specialized skill — musical instrument playing. The Constable (Band) post is a state-cadre position, which means selected candidates enjoy all the benefits of permanent government employment: confirmed service after probation, a structured pay scale of 19,500–62,000, health benefits, pension under the defined contribution scheme, and career progression within the MP Police department. Candidates from the SC, ST, OBC, and EWS categories who are MP domicile holders receive significant age relaxation and reservation benefits as well.

The recruitment process spans three stages — a Skill Test, a Band Playing Test, and an Interview — making preparation both musical and physical. This notification was issued in April 2026, and competition is expected to be significant given the relatively large number of vacancies and the accessible educational eligibility of 10+2. Candidates who play a List A instrument (such as Trumpet, Clarinet, Flute, or Saxophone) have a particularly strong advantage in this recruitment.

Important: Female candidates are NOT eligible for this recruitment. This post is open to male candidates only.

Recruitment Overview

The Madhya Pradesh Police Department is one of the largest state police forces in India, responsible for law and order across 52 districts. The Visbal (Armed Force) Headquarters in Bhopal manages this recruitment. Band units are an integral part of state police ceremonial and operational functions, and the department has consistently maintained a dedicated Band cadre. This notification follows the standard MP Police direct recruitment process governed by Jail Order (JO) 147/2019 as amended on December 10, 2025, providing a clear and legally validated framework for selection.

Application Fee

The application fee for this recruitment varies by category. General / Unreserved candidates pay Rs. 500, while SC, ST, OBC, and EWS candidates who are permanent residents of Madhya Pradesh pay a reduced fee of Rs. 250. Additionally, there is a portal charge of Rs. 150 plus 18% GST levied by the MP Online platform on top of the exam fee — this is a separate processing charge and is non-refundable. Payment is made online through the MP Online portal. A common mistake candidates make is confusing the portal charge with the exam fee — both are payable at the time of form submission. Ensure you have a working debit card, credit card, or net banking facility before beginning the application to avoid incomplete submissions.

Category Exam Fee Portal Charge Total (Approx.)
General / Unreserved (UR) Rs. 500/- Rs. 150/- + 18% GST Rs. 677/- (approx.)
SC / ST / OBC / EWS (MP Domicile only) Rs. 250/- Rs. 150/- + 18% GST Rs. 427/- (approx.)
Note: Fees are non-refundable. Portal charge is in addition to exam fee.

Age Limit

Age eligibility is calculated as on April 19, 2026 (the last date of application). The general minimum age is 18 years. The maximum age differs by category and domicile status. Non-MP domicile candidates can apply only under the Unreserved (Open) category with a maximum age of 33 years and no age relaxation. MP domicile candidates from reserved categories receive additional relaxation up to 38 years, and in some special cases (Vikram Puraskar awardees, inter-caste marriage incentive scheme) up to 43 years. Candidates with multiple grounds for relaxation will receive the single highest applicable benefit — relaxations are not added together. A candidate born on April 19, 1993 would be exactly 33 years old on the cutoff date and would qualify under the General category.

S.No. Category Gender Maximum Age (as on 19.04.2026)
1 MP – General / Unreserved Male 33 Years
2 MP – EWS (Economically Weaker Section) Male 33 Years
3 Other State – All candidates Male 33 Years (No relaxation)
4 MP – SC / ST / OBC (Reserved category domicile) Male 38 Years
5 MP – Govt. employee / Homeguard (MP domicile) Male 38 Years
6 MP – Inter-caste marriage (unreserved + reserved) (MP domicile) Male 38 Years
7 MP – Vikram Puraskar awardee – Unreserved (MP domicile) Male 33 + 05 = 38 Years
8 MP – Vikram Puraskar awardee – Reserved (MP domicile) Male 38 + 05 = 43 Years
Note: Candidates who are NOT permanent residents (domicile) of Madhya Pradesh will not receive any reservation benefit or age relaxation. Their maximum age is fixed at 33 years. Ex-Servicemen age relaxation is also available as per MP government rules — the defence service period is deducted from current age.

Eligibility Criteria

The educational eligibility for the Constable (Band) post is relatively accessible. For General / OBC / EWS candidates, the minimum qualification is passing the Class 10+2 (Higher Secondary or equivalent) from a recognized board or institution. For Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, the minimum required qualification is Class 8th pass or equivalent. Beyond the academic qualification, candidates must be Indian citizens, must hold Madhya Pradesh domicile (for reservation benefits), and must not have more than two living children born on or after January 26, 2001. Government employees must obtain prior permission from their appointing authority before submitting the application. The most common eligibility mistake is assuming that ST candidates also need 10+2 — they do not; 8th pass is sufficient for ST applicants.

Post Name For UR / OBC / EWS / SC – Min. Qualification For ST – Min. Qualification Nationality
Constable (Band) / Aarak (Band) 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board/institution Class 8th pass or equivalent Indian Citizen
Key Conditions: Candidate must be male. Must hold Aadhaar Card (UIDAI verified e-Aadhaar is acceptable). Must present all required documents by April 19, 2026. Government employees must have prior written permission from their appointing authority.

Vacancy Details

A total of 679 vacancies have been notified for the Constable (Band) post, divided across three horizontal sub-categories: Open (general public), Homeguard (HG), and Ex-Servicemen (Ex.Ser.). The reservation percentages follow MP state norms: UR 27%, SC 16%, ST 20%, OBC 27% (14% primary + 13% priority), EWS 10%, with 13% of the total as a backlog reserve. For Ex-Servicemen, a 10% horizontal reservation applies across all vertical categories, and Homeguards receive 15% horizontal reservation. From a competitive analysis standpoint, the OBC Open category has the highest number of seats (137 + 71 = 208 total across open + priority), making it the most contested category. SC and ST candidates benefit from lower cutoffs (40% passing in the Band Playing Test vs 50% for General/OBC/EWS), which is a meaningful advantage in the musical skill test stage.

Sub-Category UR SC ST OBC (Open) OBC (Priority) EWS Backlog Total
Open 138 81 102 137 71 66 51 509 + 66 backlog
Homeguard (HG) 28 16 20 28 15 13 10 102 + 13 backlog
Ex-Serviceman (Ex.Ser.) 18 11 14 18 09 09 07 68 + 09 backlog
Total 184 108 136 183 95 88 68 679 + 88 backlog
Reservation Note: UR = 27%, SC = 16%, ST = 20%, OBC = 27% (14% open + 13% priority), EWS = 10%. Homeguard = 15% horizontal reservation; Ex-Serviceman = 10% horizontal reservation. All reservations apply to MP domicile candidates only.

Selection Process

The MP Police Band Constable selection process is divided into three distinct stages. There is no written examination — the entire selection is based on musical skill, instrument playing ability, and physical fitness. This is what makes this recruitment uniquely suited for candidates who have been playing a Band instrument for years. Understanding each stage deeply before you apply is critical to preparing the right way.

Stage 1: Skill Test (Pratham Charan – Kaushal Pariksha)

In the first stage, every candidate who appears for physical measurement (Naaptol) and qualifies will be given a Skill Test. In this test, the candidate plays any one instrument of their choice from List A (the mandatory instrument list). This stage is qualifying in nature — no marks are awarded. Passing the Skill Test makes you eligible to appear in Stage 2 (Band Playing Test). Failing the Skill Test disqualifies you from proceeding further, regardless of other qualifications. Practice your chosen List A instrument rigorously before appearing. List A instruments include: Piccolo, Concert Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, French Horn, Trumpet, Cornet, Trombone, Bassoon, Euphonium, Bass Tuba, Bag Pipe, Tenor Drum, Bugle, Side Drum, and Bass Drum.

Stage 2: Band Playing Test (Dvitiya Charan – Band Vadan Pariksha)

The Band Playing Test carries 75 marks and is the most decisive stage of the selection process. It is divided into a Trade Test worth 60 marks (based on your List A instrument from Stage 1) and a Bonus section worth up to 15 marks (for proficiency in List B instruments — keyboard, guitar, violin, drum/electronics, or Indian classical instruments). For vertical categories (UR/OBC/EWS), the minimum passing marks are 50% (37.5 out of 75). For SC and ST candidates, the minimum is 40% (30 out of 75). Horizontal categories (Homeguard, Ex-Serviceman) have separate cutoff determination. Candidates who cannot achieve the minimum score in the Band Playing Test are not eligible for final selection even if they have high interview scores.

Stage 3: Interview (Tritiya Charan – Sakshatkar)

Candidates who qualify Stage 2 with minimum marks will be called for an Interview carrying 25 marks. The interview assesses trade knowledge (instrument playing theory), NCC credentials, sports achievements, personality, general knowledge, and communication ability. The date, time, and venue of the interview will be communicated via email, SMS, and WhatsApp. The final merit list is prepared on the basis of combined marks from the Band Playing Test and Interview. In case of a tie in total marks, the older candidate is ranked higher.

Physical Measurement (Naaptol) – Pre-requisite for All Stages

Before appearing in any selection stage, candidates must pass the physical measurement test (Shareerik Naaptol). Candidates must report on the scheduled date — late arrivals are not admitted. Physical measurements will be videographed. There is no relaxation in physical standards at any level.

Band Playing Test Pattern & Instrument Lists

Band Playing Test Pattern

Component Marks Instrument Source Minimum Passing (UR/OBC/EWS) Minimum Passing (SC/ST)

Total 75 37.5 marks 30 marks
Interview 25 Trade knowledge, NCC, sports, personality, GK Qualifying

List A – Mandatory Instruments (Candidate Must Know At Least One)

Every candidate must be proficient in at least one instrument from List A. The Skill Test (Stage 1) and the 60-mark Trade Test in Stage 2 are both based on the List A instrument chosen by the candidate.

List B – Bonus Instruments (Optional, 5 Bonus Marks per Instrument, Max 15)

If a candidate also knows one or more instruments from List B, they receive 5 bonus marks per additional instrument, up to a maximum of 15 bonus marks. Knowing List B instruments is entirely optional but can be a decisive advantage in competitive selections where the difference between selected and waitlisted candidates is narrow. List B instruments are considered “desirable” additional skills.

1 Keyboard / Organ / Piano 5 per instrument
2 Guitar (Acoustic / Lead / Bass) 5 per instrument

Salary & Pay Scale

The Constable (Band) post carries a pay scale of 19,500–62,000 as per the MP government pay matrix. During probation (3 years), the salary is stipulated at 70% of basic pay in the first year, 80% in the second year, and 90% in the third year, as per the MP government circular dated December 12, 2019. After successful confirmation, the full basic pay of Rs. 19,500 per month is applicable. In addition to basic pay, employees receive Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Travel Allowance (TA) as applicable — these allowances vary by posting location and are periodically revised by the state government. The estimated in-hand salary at entry level (including allowances) is approximately Rs. 22,000–27,000 per month depending on posting city. For candidates joining after January 1, 2005, the Defined Contribution Pension (NPS) scheme is applicable.

Constable (Band) / Aarak (Band) 19,500 – 62,000 Rs. 19,500/month Rs. 13,650/month (70% of basic) Rs. 22,000–27,000/month (after confirmation)
Probation Period: 3 years. Salary during probation is 70% in Year 1, 80% in Year 2, and 90% in Year 3 of the basic pay. During training, various physical and musical training allowances may also apply. No permanent or temporary exemption from training is permitted.

Physical Standards (Shareerik Mapdand)

Physical measurement is a mandatory qualifying requirement before any selection stage. All candidates must meet the height and chest measurement standards as per their category. There is no relaxation in physical standards at any level — this is explicitly stated in the notification. The chest measurement requires candidates to demonstrate a minimum expansion of 5 cm from the unexpanded measurement. A candidate whose chest measurement meets the minimum standard but cannot achieve the required expansion will not qualify. Medical examination is conducted by the District Medical Board and includes vision standards (6/9 with one eye and 6/12 with the other, without glasses), no knock knees or flat feet, and no physical disability of any kind.

S.No. Category (for Constable Band posts) Gender Height Chest – Without Expansion Chest – With Expansion (min. +5 cm)
1 General / OBC / EWS / Other Backward Classes Male 168 cm 81 cm 86 cm
2 Maratha / SC / ST Male 165 cm 79 cm 84 cm
3 Gorkha / Garhwali / Kumaoni Male 158 cm 76 cm 81 cm
Note: No relaxation in physical standards is permitted at any stage. If the chest measurement is above the prescribed minimum, a minimum expansion of 5 cm is still mandatory. Medical examination will be videographed.

  • Government employees applying without prior written permission from their appointing authority — candidature may be cancelled at document verification

Expert Tips to Crack MP Police Band Constable Recruitment 2026

1. Apply in the First Few Days — The Window is Only 14 Days

Unlike most government recruitments that offer 30–45 days for applications, this one closes in just 14 days (April 5–19). Many candidates will discover the notification late and rush to apply near the deadline, causing portal overload and potential failures. Apply between April 5–10 to avoid the last-minute rush, verify your form carefully, and have time to correct any errors within the correction window.

2. Choose Your List A Instrument Strategically

Your List A instrument choice determines your entire performance in Stage 1 and Stage 2. Do not choose an instrument you are only casually familiar with — you need to be confident enough to play it in front of an expert evaluation committee for up to 60 marks. If you play multiple List A instruments, choose the one you are most proficient in. Additionally, if you also play any List B instrument (keyboard, guitar, tabla, etc.), you can earn up to 15 additional bonus marks that could be the margin between selection and waitlisting.

3. Start Physical Preparation Alongside Musical Preparation

While the selection is primarily musical, the physical measurement stage is a mandatory filter. Candidates who do not meet the height and chest standards are eliminated before the skill test. If your chest measurement is borderline, invest time in chest expansion exercises (swimming, pull-ups, breathing exercises) in the weeks leading up to the physical test. Height cannot be altered, but chest expansion can be improved with consistent training.

4. Understand the Minimum Passing Marks in the Band Playing Test

Candidates from General/OBC/EWS categories must score at least 50% (37.5 out of 75) in the Band Playing Test. SC/ST candidates must score at least 40% (30 out of 75). These are absolute minimums — scoring below these marks makes you ineligible for final selection regardless of your interview performance. Practice your chosen instrument consistently to a level where you can comfortably achieve 65–70% in the trade test component, leaving you a comfortable margin even on an off day.

5. Prepare Documents in Advance — Especially Caste and Domicile Certificates

Caste and domicile certificates must be issued by a competent MP government authority in the prescribed format. If your certificate is from a different state, or was issued by a local body (gram panchayat, nagar palika), it will not be accepted for reservation benefits. Start the process of obtaining fresh or renewed certificates immediately if yours are outdated or not in the correct format. Homeguard candidates need a minimum 3 years of continuous active service certificate — verify this with your HG unit before applying.

6. Track Admit Card, Result, and Cutoff on Official Sources Only

After submitting your application, save your application number and keep it accessible. Physical measurement and test dates will be communicated via email, SMS, and WhatsApp — keep your registered mobile number active throughout the recruitment period. Check only the official MP Online portal and MP Police Visbal HQ website for admit cards and results. Unofficial Sarkari websites often post speculative cutoffs for niche recruitments like Band Constable that are unreliable. The final merit list will be published on the official MP Online selection portal once approved.
