TOTAL 133 19 46 46 24 268*

*Notification states totals including backlog posts. 20 posts additionally reserved for PwBD (horizontal) and 38 for Ex-Servicemen (horizontal) across categories.

SUPT(JOT)-Operator and Operator Gr. III together account for 109 of 268 posts – nearly 41% of all vacancies – making the Electronics/Instrument/Fitter trade the dominant opportunity here. SC and ST candidates combined hold 92 reserved seats, the highest reserved-category share in this notification. With approximately 268 vacancies and an expected 4–6 lakh applicants based on NALCO’s 2023–24 non-executive recruitment (which drew similar numbers for a Navratna PSU in Odisha), the selection ratio stands at roughly 1 in 1,500–2,200. ST candidates face lower competition due to strong ST reservation (46 seats) in a state where ST certificate holders are concentrated – historically improving selection odds versus UR applicants in this cadre.

Salary and In-Hand Calculation

Post Category Pay Grade Basic Pay (Entry) Gross Approx.
Operator HEMM, Mining Mate, Operator Gr.III, Technician (Fitter/Electrical/Instrumentation) Gr.III, SUPT(JOT) posts T0 Grade ₹29,500 ₹33,000–₹36,000
Jr. Foreman (Mines), Jr. Foreman (Electrical) S0 Grade ₹36,500 ₹41,000–₹44,500

T0 Grade In-Hand Breakdown (approximate):

  • Basic Pay: ₹29,500
  • DA (current industrial DA applicable to CPSEs): ~₹7,000–₹8,000
  • HRA: Damanjodi is classified as a non-metro/township location – HRA is lower, approximately ₹1,500–₹2,500 (company township norms apply rather than standard GoI HRA slabs)
  • Other allowances (TA, canteen, shift): ₹1,500–₹2,500
  • Less: NPS contribution (~10% of basic): ₹2,950
  • Less: Professional Tax, other deductions: ₹200–₹400
  • Approximate In-Hand: ₹22,000–₹24,500 per month

S0 Grade (Jr. Foreman) In-Hand: approximately ₹27,000–₹29,500 per month after similar deductions on ₹36,500 basic.

Compared to SAIL Non-Executive (T-1 grade) which offers approximately ₹24,000–₹26,000 in-hand, NALCO T0 grade offers slightly lower take-home due to the township posting location reducing standard HRA. However, NALCO provides free/subsidised medical coverage (indoor and outdoor) at NALCO Hospital – a benefit valued at ₹8,000–₹15,000 per year for a family.

SUPT(JOT) inductees receive a stipend of ₹12,000/month during the 12-month training period, increasing to ₹15,000/month for the first 12 months of the subsequent 18-month JOT period, then ₹15,500/month for the final period – before regularisation at T0 grade.

Note: NALCO is a CPSE (Central PSE) – salary follows industrial DA norms, not 7th Pay Commission. Figures above are approximate based on publicly available CPSE pay structures. Verify from official NALCO HR communication before making any decisions.

Application Fee

Category Fee Payment Mode
General / OBC(NCL) / EWS ₹100 Debit Card / Net Banking / UPI

Selection Process

Stage 1: Computer Based Test (CBT)

100 MCQs in 120 minutes; 60% technical/domain-specific questions and 40% non-technical (Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, General Knowledge, English). No negative marking. Conducted in English and Hindi only. For Posts at Sl. No. 5, 7, 9, 11 and 12 (SUPT/JOT posts), selection is via CBT only – no Trade Test. Attempt all questions since there is no penalty for wrong answers.

Stage 2: Trade Test

For Posts at Sl. No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 13 (Gr. III and Foreman posts), selection combines CBT (60% weightage) and Trade Test (40% weightage). The Trade Test is qualifying – a candidate must clear it to be considered on the combined merit list. Prepare hands-on skills alongside exam theory.

Stage 3: Document Verification and PEME

Original document verification followed by Pre-Employment Medical Examination (PEME). Medical fitness is assessed by NALCO’s Medical Officer/Board – the decision is final and binding. PEME failure results in non-appointment even after merit ranking.

Your first 7 days after applying:

  4. Bookmark www.nalcoindia.com Careers page and check it twice a week – NALCO sends no separate SMS/email for exam date announcements.

Exam Syllabus

Official syllabus has not been announced in the notification. Monitor www.nalcoindia.com for official syllabus updates. Do not prepare from unofficial sources – CBT is trade-specific and syllabus accuracy matters.

Three rejection mistakes specific to this NALCO application:
(1) Uploading a Signature or Hand Written Declaration in CAPITAL LETTERS – NALCO explicitly rejects these and the candidature may be disqualified at the CBT stage.
(2) Submitting an OBC(NCL) certificate issued before 01.04.2026 – the notification requires the certificate to be issued on or after 01.04.2026, and many candidates use older certificates from previous recruitments.
(3) Uploading a single combined PDF for all documents instead of category-wise separate PDFs per the Annexure-I upload tab structure – failure to separate documents by upload category renders the application incomplete.
