AIIMS Awantipora Faculty Recruitment 2026 – Vacancy Overview
94 vacancies are now open under AIIMS Awantipora’s direct recruitment drive for Group ‘A’ faculty posts across departments ranging from Anaesthesia to Urology. AIIMS Awantipora Faculty Recruitment 2026 covers four designations – Assistant Professor (85 posts), Associate Professor (5 posts), Additional Professor (2 posts), and Professor (2 posts) – spanning clinical, surgical, and non-clinical medical sciences. Candidates with an MD, MS, MDS, DM, M.Ch., or equivalent postgraduate medical qualification, and in select departments a non-medical Master’s plus Doctorate, are eligible. - You are a non-medical candidate with a Master’s degree + Doctorate, applying for eligible Professor/Additional Professor/Associate Professor posts only.
- You have completed 3 years teaching/research experience after your PG degree (for Assistant Professor).

- Your postgraduate qualification is not recognised by NMC/MCI, DCI (dental), or UGC (non-medical).
- You are applying for senior posts (Professor/Additional Professor) but are under 58 years – note the upper age cap, not a lower bar – and do not meet the 10–14 year experience requirement.
- You are a non-medical candidate applying for Assistant Professor posts – these are reserved for medical candidates only.
- Your residency or experience period is not yet completed as of the application closing date.
A critical eligibility note specific to this recruitment: DNB/DrNB holders must provide documentary evidence of equivalence with MD/MS/DM/M.Ch., and if DNB training was done in a hospital with fewer than 500 beds, one additional year of experience from an MCI-recognised institution is mandatory.

Vacancy and Category Analysis
| Post | UR | OBC | SC | ST | EWS | PwBD | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Assistant Professor | 34 | 20 | 14 | 6 | 8 | 3 | 85 |
| Associate Professor | 4 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 5 |
| Additional Professor | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 2 |
| Professor | 1 (1 PwBD) | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 2 |
| Grand Total | 41 | 21 | 14 | 6 | 8 | 4 | 94 |
Unreserved (UR) candidates hold the largest share at 41 seats, followed by OBC at 21 and SC at 14. ST candidates have the fewest seats at 6, concentrated almost entirely in the Assistant Professor cadre. Notably, 4% of posts (4 seats) are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities as per Government of India norms – including 1 OBC-PwBD in Anaesthesia, 1 UR-PwBD in Neurosurgery, 1 UR-PwBD in Dermatology under EWS, and 1 PwBD Professor in Physiology.
With 94 total vacancies spread across 40+ specialties – most departments have only 1–3 posts – competition is effectively department-specific rather than aggregate. Expected competition level is MODERATE to HIGH based on similar AIIMS faculty recruitments in 2024–25. SC/ST candidates historically have better selection odds in this cadre due to limited reserved-category applicant pools for super-specialty posts like Cardiology, Neurosurgery, and Urology, where the vacancy count is as low as 1.
Salary and In-Hand Calculation
| Post | Pay Level | Basic Pay (Min) | Gross Approx. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assistant Professor | Level 12 | ₹1,01,500 | ₹1,30,000–₹1,45,000 |
| Associate Professor | Level 13A-1+ | ₹1,38,300 | ₹1,75,000–₹1,90,000 |
| Additional Professor | Level 13A-2+ | ₹1,48,200 | ₹1,85,000–₹2,00,000 |
| Professor | Level 14-A | ₹1,68,900 | ₹2,10,000–₹2,25,000 |
Approximate in-hand salary breakdown for Assistant Professor (Level 12):
- Basic Pay: ₹1,01,500
- DA (current applicable rate): approximately ₹53,800 (53% of Basic as of 2026)
- HRA: Awantipora, J&K falls under Y-class city – approximately ₹20,300 (20% of Basic); if residential accommodation is allotted on campus, HRA is not paid separately
- NPA (Non-Practising Allowance for Medical Faculty): ₹25,375 (25% of Basic, capped)
- TA: As per entitlement by post level
- NPS Deduction: ~₹10,150 (10% of Basic)
- Income Tax: varies by slab
- Approximately ₹75,000–₹1,10,000 per month after all standard deductions (range accounts for tax slab variation)
Beyond salary, faculty members receive residential accommodation eligibility on campus, New Pension Scheme coverage, annual leave, and medical benefits as per Central Government norms. Private practice is strictly prohibited, which is why NPA is provided to medical faculty.
Compared to an Assistant Professor at an established AIIMS like AIIMS Patna or AIIMS Bhopal at the same Level 12, this post offers a similar take-home range; however, candidates posted at Awantipora receive Y-class HRA rather than X-class HRA applicable in metro-based AIIMS, translating to approximately ₹10,150–₹15,225 less per month in HRA alone compared to X-class postings.
Application Fee
| Category | Fee | Refund Policy |
|---|---|---|
| UR / OBC | ₹3,000 | Non-refundable |
| SC / ST / EWS | ₹2,400 | Refundable only if candidate appears for interview |
| PwBD | Exempted | No fee required |
Payment mode is online through the aiimsexams.ac.in portal. A critical warning specific to this portal: the EWS fee of ₹2,400 (not ₹3,000) is refundable only if the EWS candidate actually appears for the interview – candidates who pay but do not attend will not receive a refund under any circumstances per the notification.
Age Limit
| Post | Max Age (General) | SC/ST Relaxation | OBC Relaxation | PwBD Relaxation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Assistant Professor | 50 years | +5 years (max 55) | +3 years (max 53) | +5 years (max 55) |
| Associate Professor | 50 years | +5 years (max 55) | +3 years (max 53) | +5 years (max 55) |
| Additional Professor | 58 years | No relaxation | No relaxation | No relaxation |
| Professor | 58 years | No relaxation | No relaxation | No relaxation |
Age calculation example: For Assistant Professor (General category), the cut-off date is 18 June 2026. A candidate born on or after 19 June 1976 meets the under-50 requirement. An OBC candidate born on or after 19 June 1973 meets the under-53 relaxed limit.
Important: Even after availing age relaxation, the maximum age for Assistant Professor and Associate Professor candidates shall not exceed 55 years as on the cutoff date. Age relaxation for Government employees applies only to Central Government regular employees – it does not apply to employees of autonomous bodies (including other AIIMS), State Governments, or PSUs.
Eligibility Criteria
| Post Level | Medical Candidate Qualification | Non-Medical Candidate Qualification | Experience Required |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assistant Professor | MBBS + MD/MS/DM/M.Ch. in relevant specialty | Not eligible | 3 years post-PG teaching/research |
| Associate Professor | MBBS + MD/MS or DM/M.Ch. in specialty | Master’s + Doctorate (UGC recognised) | 6 years post-PG or 4 years post-DM/M.Ch. |
| Additional Professor | MBBS + MD/MS or DM/M.Ch. | Master’s + Doctorate | 10 years post-PG or 8 years post-DM/M.Ch. |
| Professor | MBBS + MD/MS or DM/M.Ch. | Master’s + Doctorate | 14 years post-MD/MS or 12 years post-DM/M.Ch. |
The most common eligibility mistake for faculty recruitments of this type: counting experience from the date of MBBS rather than from the date of obtaining the postgraduate qualifying degree. Only post-PG/Ph.D. experience in the concerned specialty from an NMC/MCI/DCI/UGC-recognised institution is counted. Final year candidates are not eligible – all qualifications and experience must be completed on or before 18 June 2026. BDS candidates with MDS may apply for Dentistry posts; non-medical candidates with a Master’s + Doctorate may apply for Associate Professor, Additional Professor, and Professor posts only.
Selection Process
Stage 1: Initial Eligibility Check
All applications are screened for age compliance, essential educational qualifications, and experience requirements. Applications not meeting these basic criteria are rejected at this stage without further processing.

Stage 2: Objective Screening Score (Short-listing)
If more than 10 valid applicants exist for any post after Stage 1, candidates are scored on a 75-point objective scale covering Academic Achievements (10 marks), Research & Publications (35 marks – heavily weighted on PubMed-indexed papers, h-index, and funded projects), and Teaching & Presentations (30 marks). Top 10 scorers per post are shortlisted for interview. This score is used only for shortlisting, not for final selection. Upload every supporting document – failure to upload proof results in a score of zero for that criterion.
Stage 3: Interview
Shortlisted candidates are interviewed by the AIIMS Awantipora Standing Selection Committee. Final selection is based entirely on interview performance. The entire interview process is video-recorded.
Your first 7 days after applying:
- Download and save your application registration slip and fee payment receipt immediately.
- Compile and upload all PubMed-indexed paper PDFs with PMID numbers – this is the single highest-scoring category (up to 8 marks).
- Obtain your Google Scholar h-index printout (all-time) and keep it ready for upload.
- If currently employed in a Government/autonomous body, initiate your NOC application with your employer – NOC must be uploaded before submission and cannot be added afterward.
- Check the AIIMS Awantipora website and your registered email/MyPage for any Screening Committee virtual meeting invitation, which may be scheduled to verify your credentials.

- Fill in all personal, educational, and experience details carefully – no corrections are permitted after online submission.
- Upload all supporting documents in PDF format (max 2 MB each, scanned at 200 dpi grey scale) – date of birth proof, PG degree certificate, experience certificates from NMC/MCI/DCI/UGC-recognised institutions, category certificate if applicable, and NOC if currently employed.
- Upload your photograph and signature; verify both are clearly visible in the preview before proceeding.
- Pay the application fee online through the portal (UR/OBC: ₹3,000; SC/ST/EWS: ₹2,400; PwBD: Nil).

- ✔ MBBS degree certificate and PG (MD/MS/DM/M.Ch./MDS) degree certificate
- ✔ NMC/MCI/DCI registration certificate (medical council registration)
- ✔ Experience certificates from Head of Institution – specifying duration, nature (teaching/research), and recognition authority
- ✔ SC/ST/OBC Non-Creamy Layer/EWS/PwBD certificate (FY 2026-27 NCL for OBC mandatory)
- ✔ NOC from current employer (mandatory if in Government/autonomous body service)
- ✔ PubMed PDFs with PMID, h-index printout, funded project documents for objective scoring
- Uploading experience certificates that do not specify “from–to” dates, nature of work (teaching/research), and institutional recognition – such certificates score zero in the objective criteria.
- OBC candidates submitting an NCL certificate not issued in FY 2026-27 without also uploading the acknowledgement slip showing they have applied for the current-year certificate – this can lead to category rejection.
- Applying under a reserved category (SC/ST/OBC/EWS) without uploading the category certificate – the system auto-shifts your application to UR, and category correction requests are not entertained after submission.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the approximate in-hand salary for AIIMS Awantipora Assistant Professor after deductions?
- Approximately ₹75,000–₹1,10,000 per month after NPS deduction (10% of basic), income tax, and other standard deductions, based on the Level 12 pay scale with a basic pay of ₹1,01,500. The range varies because medical faculty receive Non-Practising Allowance (NPA at 25% of basic) which is not available to non-medical faculty. Candidates should verify the exact in-hand amount at the time of pay fixation on joining.
- What is the last date to apply for AIIMS Awantipora Faculty Recruitment 2026?
- As per the official notification, the closing date for online application is 18 June 2026 by 5:00 PM on the aiimsexams.ac.in portal. Applications open from 20 May 2026; apply at least 3–4 days before the deadline to avoid payment gateway issues on the portal.
- How many total vacancies are there and which post has the most seats?
- There are 94 total vacancies across four designations. Assistant Professor has the highest count at 85 posts, spread across 40 departments including General Medicine (5 posts), Anaesthesia (4 posts), Anatomy (4 posts), Biochemistry (4 posts), and Pathology (4 posts). Associate Professor has 5 posts, while Professor and Additional Professor have 2 each.
- Is a non-medical candidate eligible for any post in AIIMS Awantipora Faculty Recruitment 2026?
- Candidates with a non-medical background (Master’s degree + Doctorate from a UGC-recognised university) are eligible only for Associate Professor, Additional Professor, and Professor posts – not for Assistant Professor positions. Non-medical candidates must apply only for the specific department/speciality where their discipline qualifies as per the recruitment rules for that post.
- What is the age limit for Assistant Professor and is there OBC relaxation?
- Under 7th Pay Commission norms and as stated in this notification, the maximum age for Assistant Professor is 50 years for General (UR) candidates as of 18 June 2026. OBC candidates receive a 3-year relaxation (maximum 53 years), SC/ST candidates receive 5 years (maximum 55 years). Even after relaxation, age cannot exceed 55 years for this post under any category.
- Is medical council registration mandatory before applying?
- Registration with NMC (National Medical Commission), MCI, or DCI (for dental candidates) is a mandatory document requirement. Candidates must upload proof of registration at the time of online application; absence of this document can result in rejection of candidature at the verification stage.
- Is DNB equivalent to MD/MS for AIIMS Awantipora faculty posts?
- DNB/DrNB may be considered equivalent to MD/MS/DM/M.Ch., but candidates must provide documentary proof of equivalence at the time of application. If DNB/DrNB training was completed in a hospital with fewer than 500 beds, the candidate must have one additional year of experience from an NMC/MCI-recognised institution. This is a post-specific requirement unique to AIIMS faculty recruitments and is frequently missed by DNB holders.
