Bihar Assistant Professor Contractual Recruitment 2026

Bihar State University Service Commission has officially released a recruitment notification for contractual Assistant Professor positions in universities of Bihar, including 211 newly constituted Rajkiya Degree Colleges. This is a time-bound recruitment with a very tight schedule – application window is only 13 days (3-15 July 2026). The selection process is based on 100 marks: 88 marks for academic qualifications and 12 marks for interview-cum-teaching demonstration. The engagement is purely contractual and valid till regular/backlog appointments are made. Candidates must have a Master’s degree with 55% marks and either NET qualification or Ph.D. as per UGC regulations.

• NET Qualified: UGC/CSIR NET for Assistant Professor OR any other test accredited by UGC
• Ph.D. Degree: As per UGC Regulations 2009 or 2016 (exempted from NET)
• Ph.D. (Pre-2009): With conditions: Regular mode, 2 external examiners, open viva-voce, 2 research papers (1 in refereed journal), 2 conference/seminar papers
• Ph.D. from Foreign University: Ranked among top 500 in QS/THE/ARWU at any time

NET Exemption Conditions (for Ph.D.)

1. Ph.D. degree awarded in regular mode
2. Ph.D. thesis evaluated by at least two external examiners
3. Open Ph.D. viva-voce conducted
4. Two research papers published from Ph.D. work (at least one in refereed journal)
5. Two papers presented in conferences/seminars sponsored/funded by UGC/ICSSR/CSIR

Selection Process and Marking Scheme (100 Marks Total)

Selection Ratio

Candidates shall be shortlisted for interview in the ratio of 1:3 (up to 3 candidates for each notified vacancy). If more than one candidate has the same marks at the cut-off position, all such candidates will be called for interview.

Tie-Breaker Rules

1. Higher marks in Academic Qualification gets preference
2. If same, candidate older in age gets preference
3. If same date of birth, candidate whose name appears alphabetically first in Devnagari Script gets preference

Interview Marks

The marks awarded by the Selection Committee in the interview shall be final and binding and shall not be subject to review or re-evaluation.

Terms of Appointment

Nature of Appointment

• Purely Contractual
• Valid till Regular/Backlog appointment of Assistant Professors
• Valid for one session only
• Fresh engagement for subsequent term made annually
• Continuation is NOT automatic

Remuneration

Monthly remuneration = Minimum monthly gross salary (Basic + DA only) of a regularly appointed Assistant Professor at the entry level.

No Regularization Claim

Candidates have no claim for regularization, permanency, absorption, or appointment against any regular post on the basis of this contractual engagement.

Teaching Experience Count

The period served under this contractual engagement shall be treated as teaching experience and may be considered wherever teaching experience is prescribed as an eligibility condition for regular recruitment.

Affidavit Required

Selected candidates must submit a notarized affidavit at the time of joining affirming that all information and documents are true and genuine.

Important Rules

• For married women: Caste certificate MUST be in father’s name, NOT husband’s
• EWS certificate for married women: Based on husband’s residence, but domicile based on father’s
• OBC-NCL certificate must be from Circle Office (not below SDO rank)
