Candidates searching for the AIIMS Rishikesh Assistant Professor in-hand salary and pay level details for 2026 will find this guide covers everything in one place — from the complete vacancy matrix and eligibility requirements to the application fee, age limit, and a realistic salary breakdown. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh — an Autonomous Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India — has released Advertisement No. 2026/07 dated 18 April 2026, inviting online applications for 119 faculty posts across Professor, Additional Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor levels in various clinical and non-clinical departments. Given the prestige of the AIIMS brand, Level 7 Pay Matrix equivalents at state medical colleges, and the strong research environment at Rishikesh, this notification is expected to attract highly competitive applicant pools especially for Assistant Professor and Associate Professor posts in high-demand surgical and medical super-specialties.

Quick Eligibility Check Before You Apply

You MAY be eligible if:

  • You are an Indian national or an OCI cardholder under Section 7(A) of the Citizenship Act, 1955.
  • You hold a medical qualification included in Schedule I, II, or Part II of the Third Schedule of the Indian Medical Council Act of 1956, along with MD/MS (for general disciplines) or DM/M.Ch. (for super-specialties).
  • For non-medical posts: you hold a Master’s degree in the discipline and a Doctorate from a recognized university.
  • Your teaching and/or research experience after the qualifying degree meets the post-wise requirements (3 years for Assistant Professor, 6 years for Associate Professor, 10–11 years for Additional Professor, 11–14 years for Professor).
  • Your age does not exceed 50 years (Assistant/Associate Professor) or 58 years (Additional Professor/Professor) as on the last date of application, with applicable relaxations.
  • Your medical qualification is registered with MCI/NMC/DCI wherever applicable.
You are NOT eligible if:

  • Your teaching experience was gained before obtaining the qualifying postgraduate degree — only post-qualification experience counts.
  • Your teaching experience is from a non-INI or non-MCI/NMC/DCI-recognized institution — such experience will not be counted.
  • You are applying under OBC category with a caste certificate issued before 01 April 2026 — the notification explicitly requires an OBC-NCL certificate dated on or after 01.04.2026.
  • You are currently employed in Central/State Government/PSU and do not have an NOC — you must produce it at the interview.
  • You engage in or intend to continue any form of private practice — the appointment is full-time and private practice is strictly prohibited.

Expert Note: The experience requirement varies significantly depending on whether you hold a 2-year, 3-year, or 5-year DM/M.Ch. course — the number of required years differs in each case. Candidates must calculate their eligibility carefully against the specific course duration, not just the degree name. Always refer to the full official notification for precise experience requirements before applying.

AIIMS Rishikesh is one of the new-generation AIIMS established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) and has rapidly grown into a recognized tertiary care and teaching institution serving the Uttarakhand region and beyond. A faculty appointment at AIIMS carries significant institutional weight — it counts as experience at an Institute of National Importance (INI), which is the highest-tier recognition for academic medical experience in India. With 119 posts across four cadre levels and over 30 departments, this is a wide-spectrum notification. The Assistant Professor cadre at 52 posts represents the largest share of this recruitment, and Anaesthesiology alone has 7 Assistant Professor vacancies — the single largest subject-wise count in this notification — reflecting the institution’s operational expansion needs.

Application Fee

Category Fee per Application Form Payment Mode
Unreserved (UR) / EWS / OBC ₹3,000/- Online portal only
SC / ST ₹500/- Online portal only
PwBD Exempted
Deputation Basis Candidates Exempted

The fee is charged per application form — candidates wishing to apply for more than one post must submit a separate online form and pay the fee separately for each post. Fee once remitted will not be refunded under any circumstances, including withdrawal of candidature, rejection of application, or non-selection. Payment is accepted only through the online application portal — no offline payment modes (challan, DD, etc.) are accepted for this recruitment. Always save the online payment receipt as it must be produced as proof at the time of interview.

Critical fee reminder: OBC-NCL candidates must ensure their caste certificate is issued on or after 01 April 2026. Paying the fee and submitting the form with an OBC certificate dated before 01.04.2026 will result in your application being treated as UR (not OBC), and the fee will not be refunded. Get your fresh OBC-NCL certificate before applying.

Age Limit and Relaxation

Post Level Upper Age Limit (Direct Recruitment) Category Age Relaxation
Assistant Professor 50 Years SC/ST +5 Years (max 55)
Associate Professor OBC +3 Years (max 53)
Additional Professor 58 Years PwBD +10 Years
Professor Government Servant +5 Years

The age cut-off date is the last date of online application submission — 18 May 2026. To calculate eligibility: for Assistant Professor (General/UR category), your date of birth must be on or after 19 May 1976. For Associate Professor (General/UR), the same 50-year limit applies — date of birth must be on or after 19 May 1976. For Professor and Additional Professor (General/UR), date of birth must be on or after 19 May 1968. An important nuance: SC/ST/OBC age relaxation is available only for reserved category vacancies — if you are applying for an unreserved post, no age relaxation applies even if you hold an SC/ST/OBC certificate. For deputation basis candidates, standard Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) deputation terms govern age eligibility.

Eligibility Criteria — Post-wise Qualification and Experience

Post Essential Qualification (Medical) Essential Qualification (Non-Medical) Minimum Post-Qualification Experience
Professor MBBS (Schedule I/II/III-Part II of IMC Act) + MD/MS in specialty; AND/OR DM/M.Ch. for super-specialties Master’s Degree in discipline + PhD from recognized university 14 years after MD/MS; OR 12 years after 2-yr/5-yr DM/M.Ch.; OR 11 years after 3-yr DM/M.Ch. (Medical); 14 years after PhD (Non-Medical)
Additional Professor Same as Professor (Medical) Same as Professor (Non-Medical) 10 years after MD/MS; OR 8 years after 2-yr/5-yr DM/M.Ch.; OR 7 years after 3-yr DM/M.Ch. (Medical); 10 years after PhD (Non-Medical)
Associate Professor Same as Professor (Medical) Same as Professor (Non-Medical) 6 years after MD/MS; OR 4 years after 2-yr/5-yr DM/M.Ch.; OR 3 years after 3-yr DM/M.Ch. (Medical); 6 years after PhD (Non-Medical)
Assistant Professor Same as Professor (Medical) Same as Professor (Non-Medical) 3 years after MD/MS; OR 1 year after 2-yr/5-yr DM/M.Ch.; OR No experience required after 3-yr DM/M.Ch. (Medical); 3 years after PhD (Non-Medical)
Hospital Administration (all levels) MBBS (Schedule I/II) + MD in Hospital Administration OR Master’s in Hospital Administration (MHA) from MCI-recognized institution 14/10/6/3 years after MD/MHA for Professor/Additional/Associate/Assistant respectively

The most common eligibility mistake for this recruitment is miscounting post-qualification experience. Experience is counted only from the date of obtaining the qualifying postgraduate degree — not from the date of joining the post. Additionally, experience from private hospitals or non-recognized institutions is not counted. Only experience from INI-recognized or MCI/NMC/DCI-recognized teaching institutions is valid. The experience certificate must be from the Head of the Organization and must explicitly state the duration (“from” and “to” dates) and nature of experience (teaching and/or research). A vague or incomplete experience letter is a common rejection reason at the interview stage. Experience is relaxable for SC/ST candidates as per rules, per the notification’s terms and conditions.

Vacancy Details and Category-wise Analysis

Post Level UR OBC SC ST EWS Total
Professor 5 12 7 4 1 29
Additional Professor 0 6 3 1 0 10
Associate Professor 1 13 8 5 1 28
Assistant Professor 15 20 8 5 4 52
Grand Total 21 51 26 15 6 119

The category-wise vacancy distribution reveals a striking pattern: OBC has the highest total seat count at 51 out of 119 — accounting for over 42% of all vacancies. This is an unusually high OBC share and is directly relevant to the competitiveness calculation. For OBC candidates, this notification offers significantly more seats than typical central government medical faculty recruitments. SC candidates have 26 seats and ST candidates have 15, which is proportionally in line with reservation norms across all four cadre levels.

The Additional Professor level has zero UR vacancies — all 10 posts are reserved (6 OBC, 3 SC, 1 ST). UR candidates should note this and apply at the Assistant or Associate Professor level instead, where UR seats are available. The notification also contains an important provision: if suitable candidates are not found for Additional Professor or Associate Professor in a particular department, the selection may be made at the Assistant Professor level in the same department and category. This means applying at a higher cadre level than you currently qualify for is also worthwhile, as you could be considered for the lower cadre if shortlisted.

PwBD vacancy specifics are not detailed in the notification — reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disability is stated to be as per Government of India guidelines. Candidates with disabilities should verify applicable categories from the official notice.

Selection Process

Stage 1 — Bio-data Based Shortlisting

The Selection Committee will shortlist candidates for interview based on their academic qualifications, research output, publications in indexed journals, teaching experience, and overall bio-data. Merely possessing the minimum prescribed qualification does not guarantee a call for interview. Candidates with a stronger publication record, experience at INIs or premier medical institutions, and additional qualifications in their specialty will be at an advantage at this stage.

Stage 2 — Personal Interview at AIIMS Rishikesh

Interviews are held at AIIMS Rishikesh in physical mode only. No online interview through any electronic medium (Skype, Zoom, Viber, or similar) will be accepted under any circumstance. No TA/DA is paid to candidates appearing for the interview. Candidates must bring a printed, signed copy of their online application form along with originals and self-attested photocopies of all supporting documents. The appointment basis (direct recruitment or deputation) for each selected candidate will be decided by the AIIMS administration.

What to Do in the First 7 Days After Applying

Save your application reference number and online payment receipt immediately. Download the notification PDF and verify your experience calculation matches the post you applied for. If you are currently employed in a government institution, initiate your NOC process with your employer immediately — do not wait until the interview call. Organize your publications list (indexed journals only), experience certificates, and all academic documents in one folder. Add a calendar reminder to monitor the AIIMS Rishikesh website from mid-May onwards for shortlisting and interview schedule updates.

Exam Syllabus and Pattern

There is no written examination for this faculty recruitment. The selection process involves bio-data based shortlisting followed by a personal interview before the Selection Committee at AIIMS Rishikesh. No written exam, MCQ test, or demonstration lesson is mentioned in the notification. Candidates should focus their preparation on subject expertise at the postgraduate/super-specialty level, research contributions, and the ability to articulate their teaching and clinical experience clearly before a senior panel.

AIIMS Rishikesh Faculty Salary — Pay Level and In-Hand Breakdown 2026

Post Pay Level Basic Pay Range Approx. Gross (with DA+NPA+HRA)
Professor Level 14-A ₹1,68,900 – ₹2,20,400 ~₹2,80,000 – ₹3,60,000/month
Additional Professor Level 13A-2 ₹1,48,200 – ₹2,11,400 ~₹2,45,000 – ₹3,30,000/month
Associate Professor Level 13A-1 ₹1,38,300 – ₹2,09,200 ~₹2,30,000 – ₹3,20,000/month
Assistant Professor Level 12 ₹1,01,500 – ₹1,67,400 ~₹1,70,000 – ₹2,60,000/month

The pay structure for AIIMS faculty follows the 7th Pay Commission matrix with additional components specific to medical faculty. The gross salary at entry Basic Pay includes: Dearness Allowance (DA) at the current applicable rate on Basic Pay; Non-Practising Allowance (NPA) — a significant component for medical faculty at 25% of Basic Pay, subject to a ceiling; House Rent Allowance (HRA) at 16% of Basic Pay for Rishikesh (classified as a Y-category city); and Transport Allowance as per the applicable level and city classification.

For an Assistant Professor joining at the entry Basic Pay of ₹1,01,500 (Pay Level 12): NPA at 25% adds approximately ₹25,375; HRA at 16% adds approximately ₹16,240; DA at the applicable rate adds a further substantial amount. The effective gross monthly salary at entry level for an Assistant Professor at AIIMS Rishikesh is estimated at approximately ₹1,70,000 – ₹1,90,000 per month depending on DA rate and whether campus accommodation is availed (in which case HRA is not paid, but accommodation value is considered a benefit). Deductions include NPS contribution at 10% of Basic + DA, Professional Tax (as applicable in Uttarakhand), and income tax as per applicable slab.

For comparison, a faculty member at a state government medical college in Uttarakhand at equivalent seniority typically draws a lower gross package due to state-level pay scales that have not been revised in line with 7th CPC at the same rate. An AIIMS faculty appointment also carries the NPA component and INI-level research infrastructure, which are absent in most state institutions. The two-year probation period is standard; on confirmation, increments follow the Pay Level matrix automatically.

Residential accommodation on the AIIMS Rishikesh campus is provided subject to availability and as per institute rules. If campus accommodation is not available, HRA as admissible to Central Government employees stationed at Rishikesh is provided. Private practice of any kind is strictly prohibited — this is a full-time appointment.

How to Apply — Step by Step

  1. Visit the AIIMS Rishikesh institute website (do not apply through any third-party portal or unofficial link)
  2. Locate and read the full 16-page official notification PDF before proceeding — especially the experience criteria for your specific post level and discipline
  3. Click the online application portal link on the institute website and complete the registration process
  4. Fill all personal, academic, and experience details accurately — name exactly as on degree certificates, date of birth, category, post applied for, specialty/department
  5. Upload scanned documents — check file size and format specifications carefully before uploading each document
  6. Pay the application fee online through the portal — save the payment receipt immediately
  7. Review every field carefully before clicking final submit — the institute will reject incomplete applications summarily
  8. Download and print the completed application form with your reference number — you must bring this signed printout to the interview along with all original documents

  • ✔ List of publications in indexed journals — separate document
  • ✔ Age proof (date of birth certificate / 10th marksheet)

  • ✔ Canvassing of any kind will lead to disqualification
  • ✔ All updates will be published on the website only — monitor the AIIMS Rishikesh website regularly
  • ✔ This article is for informational purposes only — always refer to the official notification for final authority

Common rejection mistakes:

  • Submitting an experience certificate that does not mention the exact “from” and “to” dates — treated as incomplete and rejected at interview stage
  • Applying under OBC category with a pre-April 2026 certificate — results in your application being reclassified as UR with no refund of fee
  • Not arranging NOC before the interview date — candidates employed in government institutions who cannot produce NOC at interview will not be considered
  • Applying for only the advertised higher cadre when eligible for Assistant Professor — the notification explicitly encourages eligible Assistant Professor candidates to apply even when only Associate/Additional Professor posts are advertised in a department

Expert Tips for AIIMS Rishikesh Faculty Recruitment 2026

Tip 1 — Apply Within the First Week to Avoid Fee and Portal Issues

At ₹3,000 per application form for UR/EWS/OBC candidates, this is one of the higher-fee government faculty recruitments. Payment gateway failures on the final 48 hours of a 30-day window are well-documented across central government recruitment portals. With the portal closing automatically at 5:30 PM on 18 May 2026, a payment that fails at 5:15 PM on the last day cannot be reprocessed. Given that many candidates will be applying for multiple posts (separate fee per post), apply and pay well before 10 May 2026 to allow for any technical resolution.

Tip 2 — Your Publications List Is Your Interview Differentiator

Unlike most Sarkari job notifications, AIIMS faculty selection committees heavily weigh research output. The notification specifically requires submission of a list of publications in indexed journals at the interview stage. For Assistant Professor applicants, even 3–5 first-author or corresponding-author publications in PubMed-indexed journals will significantly strengthen your bio-data score during shortlisting. If your publication count is limited, focus your application on departments where you have the most relevant clinical or research experience, rather than spreading applications across multiple departments.

Tip 3 — Verify Your DM/M.Ch. Course Duration Against the Experience Requirement

This specific notification applies different experience requirements based on whether your DM or M.Ch. was a 2-year, 3-year, or 5-year course — and the differences are material. A candidate with a 3-year DM applying for Assistant Professor needs no post-DM experience; the same candidate applying for Associate Professor needs 3 years; for Additional Professor, 7 years; and for Professor, 11 years. A candidate with a 2-year or 5-year DM applying for Assistant Professor needs 1 year of post-DM experience. Miscalculating this is one of the most common eligibility errors in AIIMS-level faculty applications.

Tip 4 — NOC and Relieving Certificate: Start the Process Today

Candidates currently working in government or semi-government institutions must produce an NOC at the interview — and a relieving certificate before joining if selected. Government departments, particularly state health departments and medical college administrations, are known to take 4–8 weeks to process NOC requests. If you apply for this notification and receive an interview call in June or July 2026, having initiated your NOC process in April gives you a realistic timeline. Starting the process after receiving the interview call letter is often too late.

Frequently Asked Questions — AIIMS Rishikesh Faculty Recruitment 2026

1. What is the approximate in-hand salary for AIIMS Rishikesh Assistant Professor after deductions?
An Assistant Professor at AIIMS Rishikesh is at Pay Level 12 with an entry Basic Pay of ₹1,01,500. Adding Non-Practising Allowance (NPA at 25% of Basic = ~₹25,375), HRA for Rishikesh (Y-city, 16% = ~₹16,240), and DA at the applicable rate brings the gross salary to approximately ₹1,70,000–₹1,90,000 per month at entry level. Deductions include NPS (10% of Basic + DA), income tax as per slab, and professional tax. The effective take-home after all deductions is approximately ₹1,35,000–₹1,55,000 per month at entry — varying with DA rate and tax slab. Campus accommodation, if availed, replaces HRA but is a non-cash benefit.
2. What is the last date to apply for AIIMS Rishikesh faculty recruitment 2026?
The online application portal closes automatically on 18 May 2026 at 5:30 PM. The application opened on 18 April 2026 at 10:00 AM. No extension has been announced. The same date is the cut-off for counting age, qualification, and experience for eligibility purposes.
3. What are the total vacancies and post names?
There are 119 faculty vacancies in total: Professor (29 posts across 25 specialties), Additional Professor (10 posts across 10 specialties), Associate Professor (28 posts across 19 specialties), and Assistant Professor (52 posts across 37 specialties/sub-specialties). The complete department-wise and category-wise breakdown is available in the notification’s vacancy matrix.
4. What is the minimum educational qualification required?
For medical candidates: MBBS qualification as per Schedule I/II/III-Part II of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, plus MD/MS in the relevant specialty. For surgical and medical super-specialties, DM (medical) or M.Ch. (surgical) is additionally required. For non-medical candidates (such as Biochemistry, Physiology, etc.): a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline plus a Doctorate (PhD) from a recognized university is required.
5. What is the age limit for general category candidates?
For Assistant Professor and Associate Professor: the upper age limit is 50 years as on the last date of application (18 May 2026). For Additional Professor and Professor: the upper age limit is 58 years. Age is calculated as on the closing date of the online application.
6. What is the age relaxation for OBC, SC, and ST candidates?
SC/ST candidates receive 5 years of relaxation on the upper age limit. OBC candidates receive 3 years. PwBD candidates receive 10 years. Government servants receive 5 years. Importantly, no age relaxation is available to SC/ST/OBC candidates who are applying for unreserved (UR) category vacancies — the relaxation applies only when applying against reserved category posts.
7. What is the application fee for general and OBC candidates?
UR, EWS, and OBC candidates each pay ₹3,000 per application form. SC/ST candidates pay ₹500 per form. PwBD candidates and those applying on deputation basis are fully exempted. The fee is paid only through the online application portal and is non-refundable. Candidates applying for multiple posts must submit separate forms and pay fees separately for each.
8. What is the selection process for this recruitment?
The selection involves two stages: bio-data based shortlisting by the Selection Committee, followed by a personal interview conducted at AIIMS Rishikesh in physical mode only. No online interviews are accepted. Shortlisted candidates will be called to appear before the Selection Committee and must bring all original documents and self-attested copies at the time of interview.
9. Can final year postgraduate students apply for this recruitment?
The notification states that the cut-off date for qualification and experience is the last date of application submission (18 May 2026). The notification does not explicitly permit appearing/final-year candidates. Experience must be completed on or before the cut-off date. Candidates who will complete their qualifying degree after 18 May 2026 are therefore not eligible. Verify from the official notification if in doubt.
10. What documents are required to apply and bring to the interview?
At the time of application, you need accurate academic and personal details, a recent photograph, signature scan, and online payment proof. At the interview, you must bring: printed signed application form, age proof, Aadhaar card, residence proof, all degree certificates and marksheets, MCI/NMC/DCI registration, experience certificates (with “from-to” dates and nature of work), list of publications in indexed journals, category certificate (OBC-NCL must be dated on or after 01.04.2026), NOC from current employer (if in government service), and payment receipt.
11. Where can I find admit card and result for this recruitment?
There is no written examination and therefore no admit card. Interview call letters are issued based on shortlisting from bio-data. All updates, including interview schedules and results, are published exclusively on the AIIMS Rishikesh institute website. Monitor the website regularly from May 2026 onwards. No TA/DA is provided for attending the interview.
12. Is there negative marking in the written exam?
There is no written examination in this faculty recruitment. The selection process consists entirely of bio-data evaluation and a personal interview before the Selection Committee. The concept of negative marking is therefore not applicable to this notification.
