Stage 1: Computer Based Test (CBT) / OMR Based Written Test

The screening test will be of 120 marks with 120 multiple-choice questions (1 mark each). Duration is 1.5 hours (90 minutes). If the number of candidates is limited, HPRCA may opt for OMR-based tests instead of CBT. The test covers subject knowledge up to Master’s level (prescribed essential qualification) plus General Knowledge of Himachal Pradesh, Current Affairs, Everyday Science, Logical Reasoning, Social Science, General English & General Hindi of Matric standard.

Prep Tip: Since there’s no negative marking mentioned, attempt all questions. Focus heavily on Himachal Pradesh specific GK – districts, tourist places, current schemes, and history. The subject knowledge portion will test your Master’s level understanding of your chosen subject.

Stage 2: Document Verification

Shortlisted candidates will be called for document verification. Original certificates for age proof (Matriculation), educational qualifications (Master’s degree, B.Ed, TET), category certificates (SC/ST/OBC/BPL/EWS – valid as on closing date and verification date), and experience (if any) will be verified. Candidates from other states will have their category treated as General.

Stage 3: Merit List & Counseling

Final merit is based purely on CBT marks. No interview. Counseling will be conducted for allocation of schools/posts based on merit, preference, and availability. For multi-shift CBT exams, scores will be normalized using the Z-Score Method (Mean and Standard Deviation Method).

Syllabus Topics (as per Section 3 of Notification)

• Subject-specific Knowledge: Topics up to the level of prescribed essential qualification (Master’s degree level in the concerned subject). For Music Teacher – Vocal/Instrumental theory and practice. For Drawing Teacher – Fine Arts, Painting, Sculpture techniques. For Physical Education – Sports science, training methods, rules of games.

Preparation Tips (Based on Official Syllabus)

• Master Your Subject: Revise your Master’s degree core topics thoroughly. Expect questions at PG level, not just graduation level.
• HP GK is Your Gold Mine: Read Himachal Pradesh yearbooks, follow HP current affairs portals. Questions on HP’s new schemes, districts, and historical events are common.
• Practice Mock Tests: Simulate the 120-questions-in-90-minutes environment. Speed is critical – you have only 45 seconds per question.
• Matric Level English/Hindi: Don’t over-prepare. Focus on basic grammar, synonyms-antonyms, and simple comprehension passages.

1. Apply Early – Avoid Last-Minute Server Crashes

Government portals often crash on the last 2-3 days. Since the correction window is only 4 days after closing, you won’t get a second chance to fix mistakes. Apply at least one week before the deadline.

2. Verify Your Bonafide Himachali Status Before Applying

If you are claiming SC/ST/OBC/BPL/WFF reservation, you MUST have passed matriculation and 10+2 from a school in Himachal Pradesh. Without this, you will be treated as General category even if you have a valid caste certificate. Non-HP residents – don’t waste money applying under reserved categories.

These 10-15 questions are easy marks if you practice. Revise basic grammar rules (tenses, articles, prepositions) and Hindi vyakaran (samas, sandhi, muhavare). Don’t skip this section assuming you know it – practice is key.

5. Understand That This Is NOT a Permanent Job

Many candidates apply without reading the “Scheme” details. This is a 5-year temporary engagement with no regularization. If you are looking for a permanent government job, this is not for you. If you want CBSE teaching experience, a fixed income, and a chance to later qualify for regular recruitment, this is a good option.

6. Keep All Certificates Valid Throughout the Process

Your OBC/EWS/BPL certificates must be valid on the closing date AND on document verification date (which could be months later). OBC certificates are valid for 1 year. Get fresh certificates if your current ones will expire before the expected verification date.

Q1. Is this a permanent government job?

A1. No. This is a temporary engagement for 5 years under a specific Scheme. There is no regularization, no pension, and no government employee status. You will be paid a fixed honorarium, not a salary.

Q2. Can candidates from other states apply?

A2. Yes, candidates from other states can apply. However, they will be treated as General category candidates – no reservation benefits, no fee concession. They must also possess the same educational qualifications.

Q3. Is TET mandatory for all posts?

A3. For most posts (Music, Sanskrit, History, Hindi, Geography), yes – TET conducted by HP Board of School Education is mandatory. For Drawing Teacher, TET is not mentioned as a requirement. For Physical Education Teacher, TET is also required.
