Indian Navy Apprentice Recruitment 2026: 50 ITI Technician Vacancies Announced

Among the August 2026 releases, Indian Navy has announced a significant apprenticeship opportunity for ITI qualified candidates. Naval Ship Repair Yard (Sri Vijaya Puram) has released a notification for the “Technician (Vocational) Apprentice Programme for One Year (IT-03 Batch)” for the training batch 2026-27. A total of 50 vacancies are available across 13 designated trades under the Apprentices Act, 1961 read with Apprenticeship Rules, 1992. Candidates must apply online through the designated portal from the third day of Employment News publication until 10th October 2026. Vacancy Analysis:

Electrician has the highest number of vacancies with 8 posts, followed by Shipwright (Wood) with 6 posts, and Fitter, Mechanic (Diesel), and Welder with 5 posts each. The Electronics Mechanic, Instrument Mechanic, Machinist, PASAA, and Sheet Metal Worker trades have the fewest vacancies (2 each). Eligibility Criteria

ITI Trade Mapping: The relevant ITI trade for each designated trade must be as per Schedule I of Apprenticeship Rules, 1992. Irrelevance between the applied trade and the ITI trade certificate will lead to rejection.

Reservation Details

Horizontal Reservation (3% each):

• Persons with Disability (PwD): 3% of vacancies horizontally reserved for otherwise eligible candidates meeting fitness relaxation criteria in Rule 4 of Apprenticeship Rules, 1992.
• Ex-Servicemen/Armed Forces Personnel: 3% reserved for:
  • Children of deceased/disabled Ex-Servicemen
  • Children of Ex-Servicemen
  • Children of Serving Javans

Selection Process

Stage 1: Preliminary Merit List

Preliminary selection is based on a Merit List drawn trade-wise and category-wise on the basis of aggregate percentage of marks obtained in ITI trade and Class 10. Candidates in the preliminary merit list will be called for interview.

Stage 2: Interview (50 Marks)

Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview at Apprentice Training School, Naval Ship Repair Yard, Sri Vijaya Puram. The interview carries 50 marks and tests technical skills in the respective trade. Call letters will be issued via registered email.

Stage 3: Document Verification

Candidates must produce original documents before registration for verification including SSC/Matriculation Marks Certificate, ITI Certificate, Aadhaar Card, Caste Certificate (if applicable), PwD Certificate (if applicable), and Ex-Servicemen/Armed Forces Personnel Certificate (if applicable).

Stage 4: Medical Examination

All applicants are required to get a medical fitness certificate from Government Hospitals/Government Medical Officer.

Final merit list is prepared considering interview marks. In case of tie, candidate’s date of birth (elder person placed above), followed by alphabetical order of first name (A to Z) as per Class 10 certificate.
