- You have an MBBS degree with 3 years experience in a 20+ bed hospital for Medical Officer.
- You are a fresh graduate with 55% in Bachelor’s for Junior Assistant (no experience required).
- You belong to SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Ex-serviceman category and claim age relaxation as per GoI norms.
- Your experience was gained BEFORE completing the minimum educational qualification.
- You do not have 55% marks (or equivalent CGPA) in the qualifying degree – relaxation only for exceptional cases.
- You are applying for Medical Officer without a valid MBBS degree and completed Compulsory Rotary Internship.
- Your OBC certificate does not meet Central Government “Non-Creamy Layer” criteria (State OBC certificates are invalid).
⚠️ Expert Note: The most common rejection reason for IIT non-teaching jobs is incorrect experience calculation. Experience is counted ONLY AFTER the date of acquiring the minimum essential qualification. If you worked as an intern or trainee before your degree completion, that period does NOT count.

| 10(A/B/C) | Junior Mechanic (JM) | Group C | Level 3 | ₹21,700 – ₹69,100 |
📊 Recruitment analysis: The notification confirms 10 distinct post categories. Group A posts (AR, TO, AEE, MO) are the highest paying at Level 10 with basic pay starting ₹56,100. Group B includes Junior Superintendent, JTS, and JSO (Level 6, basic ₹35,400). Group C includes Junior Assistant, JTA, and Junior Mechanic (Level 3, basic ₹21,700). The number of vacancies is not explicitly stated in the notification – IIT Bhilai has kept it tentative. This means they may hire 1 or 10 candidates per post based on requirements. Candidates should apply if eligible regardless of “expected competition” because selection panels are often drawn for future vacancies as well. The notification also mentions that a waitlist panel will be created for vacancies arising until the interview date.
Salary and In-Hand Calculation (With Allowances)
| Post | Pay Level | Basic Pay (Min) | DA (approx. 50% of Basic) | HRA (24%/16%/8%) | TA | Gross Approx. In-Hand |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Assistant Registrar / TO / AEE / MO | Level 10 | ₹56,100 | ₹28,050 | ₹13,464 (24% – Bhilai X) | ₹3,600 | ₹1,01,214+ |
| Junior Superintendent / JTS / JSO | Level 6 | ₹35,400 | ₹17,700 | ₹8,496 | ₹1,800 | ₹63,396+ |
| Junior Assistant / JTA / Junior Mechanic | Level 3 | ₹21,700 | ₹10,850 | ₹5,208 | ₹1,350 | ₹39,108+ |
💰 In-hand breakdown explanation: IIT Bhilai follows Central Government pay rules. DA is revised twice a year – currently assumed at 50%. HRA depends on city class: Bhilai is “X” city (population 50 lakh+), so HRA is 24% of Basic Pay. If you opt for institute accommodation, HRA is not paid but you get a residence at nominal license fee. Additional benefits include: Reimbursement of Medical Expenses (for self and family), Children Education Allowance, Leave Travel Concession (LTC) once every 4 years, and Transport Allowance (TA) as per pay level. One important difference vs contract jobs: Selected candidates are covered under the National Pension System (NPS) with defined contribution – 10% from basic + DA from employee, 14% from employer. Your in-hand will be approx. ₹1,01,000 for Level 10 after NPS deduction.
Application Fee (Category-wise)
| Post Group | UR/OBC-NCL/EWS | SC/ST/PwD/Female | Payment Mode |
|---|---|---|---|
| Group A (Assistant Registrar, TO, AEE, MO) | ₹1,000 | ₹500 | Online via SAMARTH Portal (Debit/Credit/Net Banking) |
| Group B & C (JS, JA, JTS, JSO, JTA, JM) | ₹500 | ₹250 |
⚠️ Critical fee warning: Internal candidates (already working at IIT Bhilai) are exempted from application fee. For all others, applications without successful payment details will be REJECTED. If applying for multiple posts, you must submit separate applications with separate fee payments for each post.
Age Limit (As on 18.05.2026)
| Category | Maximum Age | Relaxation |
|---|---|---|
| General (UR) / EWS | As per post level – typically 35-40 years for Group A | None (unless exceptional case) |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | As per UR limit + 3 years | As per GoI OM No. DOPT-1667569393892 dated 06.09.2022 |
| SC/ST | As per UR limit + 5 years | Standard Central relaxation |
| PwD | As per UR limit + 10 years | UDID card mandatory |
| Ex-Servicemen | As per GoI norms | As applicable |
| Internal IIT Bhilai Employees | Relaxation as per Institute norms | Contact HR |
📅 Age calculation example: If the closing date is 18.05.2026, a General category candidate for Assistant Registrar (max age say 35) must be born on or after 18.05.1991. SC candidate gets 5 years: born on or after 18.05.1986. OBC certificate must be valid and “Non-Creamy Layer” as on 18.05.2026.
Eligibility Criteria (Post-Wise Minimum Requirements)
| Post | Essential Qualification | Required Experience (After Qualifying Degree) |
|---|---|---|
| Assistant Registrar | Master’s degree with 55% marks | 8 years total, with 3 years in Pay Level 7 or 6 years in Pay Level 6 |
| Junior Superintendent | Master’s with 55% OR Bachelor’s with 55% | 3 years (Master’s) OR 5 years (Bachelor’s) |
| Junior Assistant | Bachelor’s degree with 55% marks | No experience required |
| Technical Officer | M.Tech/M.E. (55%) OR B.Tech/B.E. (55%) | 5 years (M.Tech) OR 7 years (B.Tech) with 3 years in Level 7 |
| Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) | M.Tech/M.E. in Electrical (55%) OR B.Tech/B.E. Electrical (55%) | 5 years (M.Tech) OR 7 years (B.Tech) with 3 years in Level 7 |
| Medical Officer | MBBS + Compulsory Rotary Internship (55% marks) | 3 years working experience in a recognized hospital with 20+ beds |
| Junior Technical Superintendent | M.Tech (55%) OR B.Tech (55%) OR Diploma (55%) | 1 year (M.Tech) OR 3 years (B.Tech) OR 6 years (Diploma) |
| Junior Sports Officer | M.P.Ed (55%) OR B.P.Ed (55%) | 3 years (M.P.Ed) OR 5 years (B.P.Ed) |
| Junior Technical Assistant | B.Tech/B.E./M.Sc (55%) OR Diploma (55%) | No experience for B.Tech. For Diploma: 3 years experience |
| Junior Mechanic | B.Tech/B.E. (55%) OR Diploma (55%) | No experience for B.Tech. For Diploma: 3 years experience |
⚠️ Most common eligibility mistake: Candidates with a Diploma often assume it is equivalent to B.Tech. It is NOT – unless you have the additional years of experience prescribed. Also, “55% marks” is strict. CGPA conversion must match UGC 7-point scale (Grade B = 55%). If your university uses a different scale, attach a conversion certificate from the university registrar.
Selection Process
Stage 1: Application Scrutiny & Shortlisting
Only candidates with better qualifications and relevant experience will be shortlisted. Meeting minimum eligibility does NOT guarantee a call for written test. IIT Bhilai reserves the right to raise the criteria based on application volume.
Stage 2: Written Test (if conducted)
Shortlisted candidates will be notified via email. The written test may be objective or descriptive, depending on the post. For technical posts (TO, AEE, JTS, JTA, JM), the test will cover core engineering subjects. For administrative posts (AR, JS, JA), it will cover general awareness, reasoning, quantitative aptitude, and office procedures.
Stage 3: Skill / Trade Test (if applicable)
For Junior Assistant: typing test in English/Hindi on computer. For Junior Mechanic: practical hands-on test. For Junior Sports Officer: sports proficiency demonstration. Only candidates who qualify the skill test proceed to interview.
Stage 4: Interview (only for Group A and shortlisted Group B/C)
Final selection merit list is based on written test + skill test + interview combined performance. TA/DA: Group A candidates called for interview get 2nd AC rail fare reimbursement from hometown/office to Bhilai/Durg (shortest route) on submission of ticket copies. Group B/C candidates do not get TA for any test.
Your first 7 days after applying:
- Note down your SAMARTH portal application number and payment transaction ID.
- Check that your OBC certificate (if applicable) is in Central Government format – not State format. If not, apply for a new one immediately.
- For Junior Assistant: Start practicing Hindi/English typing on computer – minimum speed expectation is 35 wpm.
- For Technical Officer/AEE: Revise basic electrical/infrastructure engineering – written test will focus on fundamentals.
- Keep checking your email inbox (and spam folder) daily for test calls.
- Prepare self-attested copies of ALL documents – experience certificates must clearly mention pay level (Level 6/7) and salary proof.
- If you are a government employee, apply for NOC from your current employer immediately – you will need it before interview.
