Karnataka Agriculture Officer Recruitment 2026 Apply Online

The Karnataka Agriculture Officer in-hand salary 2026 is one of the most searched questions after Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) released its official recruitment notification on 18 April 2026, inviting online applications from eligible graduates for the posts of Agriculture Officer (Krushi Adhikari) and Assistant Agriculture Officer (Sahayaka Krushi Adhikari) under the Karnataka Agriculture Department. A combined total of 632 vacancies (including 02 Hyderabad-Karnataka region posts) have been advertised under Advertisement No. ಇಡಿ/ಕೆಇಎ/08/ನೇ.ವಿ./2026(ಆರ್‌ಪಿಸಿ). The minimum qualification for the majority of posts is a BSc (Agriculture) or BSc (Honours) Agriculture degree recognised by ICAR or AICTE. Given KEA’s reputation as Karnataka’s premier examination authority and the large number of vacancies across all reserved categories, competition is expected to be very high – candidates who prepare from day one and apply early will hold a measurable advantage.

Quick Snapshot – KEA Agriculture Recruitment 2026

Application Last Date 10 May 2026 (Fee payment by 12 May 2026)
Minimum Qualification BSc (Agriculture) / BSc (Hons) Agriculture or equivalent approved stream

Quick Eligibility Check

You MAY be eligible if:

  • You hold a BSc (Agriculture) or BSc (Hons) Agriculture degree from an ICAR / AICTE recognised university
  • For Sre.15-level posts: you hold a B.Tech in Food Science & Technology, Agricultural Engineering, or BSc in related streams (Horticulture, Sericulture, Agri Business Management, etc.)
  • You are an Indian citizen aged between 18 and 40 years (General) as of the application closing date
  • You have completed your qualifying degree – all marks and certificates are available
  • You are physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of the post
You are NOT eligible if:

  • You are currently appearing in your final year examination and have not yet received results by the last date
  • Your degree is from an institution not recognised by ICAR / AICTE / UGC (distance or correspondence courses from unrecognised bodies are explicitly excluded)
  • You have been permanently debarred from any government recruitment examination or service
  • You have already been selected from a direct recruitment post for these same positions previously
  • You are over the maximum age limit for your category as of the last date of application

A critical point this notification makes clear: candidates whose results are awaited as of the last date are not eligible. Unlike some central government recruitments, KEA requires the qualifying certificate and marksheet to be in hand at the time of application. Final-year appearing candidates cannot apply.

With only about three weeks between the notification date and the last date, candidates who delay risk technical issues with portal traffic near the deadline. Apply in the first week, before 25 April 2026 if possible, to avoid last-minute server delays and give yourself time to rectify any document upload issues.

CRPF Constable Tradesman Recruitment 2026 – 9,195 Vacancy

Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) is the state’s nodal body for conducting competitive examinations for Group-B and Group-C posts across multiple departments. Its examinations are well-structured and follow strict merit-based selection. For this recruitment, KEA is conducting direct recruitment for the Karnataka Agriculture Department – a department that consistently attracts tens of thousands of BSc Agriculture graduates statewide. With 632 total vacancies across all categories, applicant volumes are likely to run into several lakhs, making thorough preparation non-negotiable from day one.

Application Fee

Category Fee Amount Payment Mode
General Merit (GM) / Category-2A / 2B / 3A / 3B ₹750/- (₹500 application fee + ₹250 processing fee) Online only
SC / ST / Category-1 / PwD / Ex-Servicemen / Women candidates ₹500/- (₹250 application fee + ₹250 processing fee) Online only
Special Abled (PwD) candidates – processing fee only ₹250/- (processing fee only) Online only

Fee once paid is not refundable under any circumstances as per KEA policy. Payment must be completed by 12 May 2026 – note that this is two days after the application last date, giving a small window. However, an application without completed fee payment will be treated as incomplete.

Critical fee mistake to avoid: If you are applying for both Agriculture Officer (Sre.85) and Agriculture Officer (Sre.15) posts, these are counted as separate posts under the same application. The notification specifies that one application fee covers one post category – check the notification carefully about whether a single application covers both Sre.85 and Sre.15 vacancies or requires separate fee payments. Paying the wrong amount or paying for only one when two separate registrations are needed is a common rejection trigger.

Age Limit and Relaxation

Category Min Age Max Age Age Relaxation
General Merit (GM) 18 years 40 years No relaxation
Category-2A / 2B / 3A / 3B (OBC equivalent) 18 years 43 years 3 years relaxation
SC / ST / Category-1 18 years 45 years 5 years relaxation
PwD (Person with Disability) 18 years 50 years 10 years relaxation
Ex-Servicemen 18 years As per GoK rules Service period + 3 extra years

Age calculation example: If you are a General Merit candidate born on 10 May 1986, you will turn exactly 40 on 10 May 2026 – the last date of application. This means you are eligible (you complete 18 years and have not yet exceeded 40). If your birthday falls on 11 May 1986 or earlier (making you older than 40 before the last date), you are not eligible under GM category. A Category-2A/2B/3A/3B candidate born on 10 May 1983 (turning 43 on last date) would be right at the boundary – verify this with the official notification’s exact wording. Always count your age as of the last date of application, not the notification date.

Eligibility Criteria

Post Educational Qualification Stream / Subject Experience
Agriculture Officer / Assistant Agriculture Officer (Sre.85 posts) BSc (Agriculture) or BSc (Hons) Agriculture Agriculture (main subject) Not mentioned
Agriculture Officer / Assistant Agriculture Officer (Sre.15 posts) B.Tech (Food Science & Technology) / B.Tech (Agricultural Engineering) / BSc (Horticulture & Cooperation) / BSc (Agri Marketing & Cooperation) / BSc (Hons) Agri Business Management / BSc (Agricultural Biotechnology) / B.Tech (Biotechnology) / BSc (Agricultural Engineering) / B.Tech (Agricultural Engineering) Multiple approved streams as listed above Not mentioned

The most common eligibility mistake for this post is submitting a degree from a university or institution not recognised by ICAR or AICTE. The notification explicitly states that degrees obtained through distance or correspondence courses that are not equivalent to the regular programme under ICAR/AICTE norms will not be accepted. Final-year or appearing candidates are not eligible – results must be declared and degree awarded by the last date of application. Equivalent qualifications are accepted only if they match the approved list in the notification; candidates cannot assume equivalence without checking the official document.

Vacancy Details and Category-wise Analysis

Post Name GM Cat-2A Cat-2B Cat-3A Cat-3B Cat-1 (OBC-equiv.) SC ST PwD Total
Agriculture Officer (Sre.85 posts) Category-wise breakdown: Not separately mentioned in notification for each sub-category 67 + 02 HK

Assistant Agriculture Officer (Sre.85 posts) Category-wise breakdown: Not separately mentioned in notification for each sub-category 468
Assistant Agriculture Officer (Sre.15 posts) Category-wise breakdown: Not separately mentioned in notification for each sub-category 83
Total 632

The detailed category-wise (GM/SC/ST/OBC/EWS) breakdown for each post is not separately published in the official notification text available at this time. KEA typically releases the complete category-wise vacancy list either in the detailed notification PDF or on the portal at the time of application opening. The Assistant Agriculture Officer post carries the highest overall vacancy count at 551 (468 + 83), making it the most accessible route for BSc Agriculture graduates. The PwD (Special Abled / Vishesh Chetana) reservation is mentioned as applicable under Government Order No. SIA-SU/149/ESR/AR/2020 dated 25.09.2020 for Group-B posts, with a minimum 1% horizontal reservation applicable. Previous year category-wise data for this specific cycle is not available for comparison. Candidates from Karnataka’s SC/ST and Cat-1 communities benefit from the highest age relaxation of 45 years maximum, giving late starters in those communities a significant advantage in this large recruitment cycle.

Selection Process

Stage 1: Kannada Language Test (Mandatory)

The Kannada Language Test is conducted by the Secondary Education Examination Board (SSLC board) or Karnataka state equivalent. It is a qualifying test, not merit-based – candidates must pass with minimum qualifying marks to proceed to the written examination shortlisting. Candidates who have studied Kannada as their first or second language up to SSLC level, or studied in Kannada medium, are exempt from this test. A specific preparation tip: obtain the official SSLC-level Kannada question pattern early – the test is multiple-choice with 150 total marks, and the pass mark is 50. The Kannada test is scheduled for 06 June 2026 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Stage 2: Competitive Written Examination (Offline OMR)

The written examination is merit-based and consists of two papers, each carrying 300 marks with a duration of 2 hours. Paper-1 covers General Studies (current affairs, science, Karnataka and Indian history/geography, Indian Constitution, rural development, economics, environment, logical reasoning, consumer affairs, and practical knowledge). Paper-2 is a subject-specific paper whose syllabus will be announced separately by KEA. A minimum of 35 marks must be scored in the competitive examination to qualify – candidates below this threshold are ineligible for further consideration. Preparation tip: allocate at least 60% of your study time to Paper-2 as it directly tests your BSc Agriculture knowledge, which differentiates top scorers from the rest.

Stage 3: Document Verification

Document verification is qualifying in nature. Candidates shortlisted on merit must produce all original documents. Any mismatch between online application data and original documents at this stage leads to immediate disqualification. Preparation tip: scan and keep digital copies of all originals ready now – do not wait until shortlisting to organise documents.

Stage 4: Medical Examination

Final selected candidates must clear a medical examination conducted by the state medical board. The standard for fitness is defined by the Karnataka government service norms. Candidates with certain physical disabilities may be reviewed for category-specific fitness standards. This is a qualifying stage.

What to do in the first 7 days after applying: (1) Download and save your application confirmation number immediately. (2) Screenshot your filled application form and fee payment receipt. (3) Begin Paper-1 preparation with current affairs from the last 6 months. (4) Identify your Paper-2 weak areas and create a daily topic plan. (5) Ensure your Kannada language skills are at SSLC level – take one mock test this week. (6) Verify your category certificate is current and in the correct format as specified in the notification. (7) Follow KEA’s official social media page for any date change announcements.

Exam Syllabus and Pattern

Paper Subject Marks Duration Negative Marking
Kannada Language Test Kannada Language (SSLC level) 150 2 hours Not mentioned for language test
Paper-1 (General Studies) Current affairs, General Science, Karnataka & Indian History/Geography, Indian Constitution, Rural Development, Public Administration, Economics, Environment, Logical Reasoning, Consumer Affairs, Practical Knowledge 300 2 hours 0.75 marks per wrong answer
Paper-2 (Specific Subject) Specific subject syllabus to be announced separately by KEA 300 2 hours 0.75 marks per wrong answer
The official Paper-2 (subject-specific) exam syllabus for this recruitment has not been separately announced in the notification. Candidates are advised to monitor the official KEA notification and portal for updates on the Paper-2 syllabus. Do not prepare from unofficial or guessed syllabus sources – this wastes preparation time and risks covering wrong topics. The notification confirms Paper-2 will be a “prescribed paper” (ನಿರ್ದಿಷ್ಟ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆ) with the curriculum announced separately.

Regarding negative marking: the written exam uses an OMR sheet (Offline-OMR type). Each question carries 4 options. For every wrong answer, 0.75 marks are deducted. In the OMR sheet, candidates may choose a 5th option (skip/leave), and answers must be shaded before the final bell. If a candidate shades an option and later tries to change it, the last shaded option within time will be counted. Leaving a question blank carries no penalty.

Candidates for Sre.85 posts (Agriculture Officer and Assistant Agriculture Officer) appearing for the same examination will write Paper-1 together. Candidates for Sre.15 posts will also write Paper-1 but their Paper-2 will be different. Both groups sit for their competitive exam on 07 June 2026, with Paper-1 in the morning session and Paper-2 in the afternoon.

Salary, Pay Scale and In-Hand Calculation

Post Name Pay Scale (2024 Revised) Basic Pay (Entry) Grade Pay Gross Salary (Approx.)
Agriculture Officer (Krushi Adhikari) ₹69,250 – 1,34,200 ₹69,250 Included in revised scale ₹75,000 – ₹82,000 approx. (with DA)
Assistant Agriculture Officer (Sahayaka Krushi Adhikari) ₹65,950 – 1,24,900 ₹65,950 Included in revised scale ₹71,000 – ₹78,000 approx. (with DA)

Understanding your actual take-home pay is critical before you commit to this career path. Here is an approximate in-hand calculation for the Assistant Agriculture Officer post at entry level (₹65,950 basic):

Dearness Allowance (DA) at current Karnataka state rates (approximately 31–34% of basic) adds roughly ₹20,000–₹22,000 to the gross. House Rent Allowance (HRA) depends on posting location – Bengaluru city postings attract 24% HRA (approximately ₹15,800), Tier-2 cities attract 16% (approximately ₹10,550), and rural postings attract 8% (approximately ₹5,276). Transport Allowance (TA) for Group-B posts is approximately ₹1,500–₹3,000 per month depending on city category.

Deductions from gross: National Pension System (NPS) contribution at 10% of basic (approximately ₹6,595 per month deducted), Professional Tax (approximately ₹200), and Group Insurance Scheme (approximately ₹150–₹300). Total deductions typically amount to ₹7,000–₹8,000 per month at entry level.

Estimated in-hand take-home pay: approximately ₹49,000 – ₹58,000 per month for Assistant Agriculture Officer at entry level, varying by posting location. For Agriculture Officer, the take-home is approximately ₹52,000 – ₹62,000 per month. This compares favourably with IBPS Bank Clerk (approximately ₹28,000–₹32,000 in-hand) and is at par with Karnataka State Police Sub-Inspector entry pay. The Karnataka state pay revision of 2024 significantly improved the scales, making this one of the better-paying Group-B state government positions. Promotion from Assistant Agriculture Officer to Agriculture Officer typically takes 6–10 years based on seniority and vacancy availability. Further promotions to Senior Agriculture Officer and Deputy Director of Agriculture are available on the career ladder.

CGDA Young Professional 2026 – Eligibility, ₹80,000 Salary & How to Apply

How to Apply – Step by Step

  1. Visit the official KEA portal (cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea/) and look for the direct recruitment notification link.
  2. Read the full notification PDF completely before proceeding – pay special attention to the eligibility clauses and document requirements.
  3. Click on “Apply Online” or “New Registration” and complete the registration with your valid mobile number and email address.
  4. Fill in all personal details accurately – name as per Aadhaar, date of birth, category, domicile, and educational qualification details.
  5. Upload scanned documents – photo in JPEG format (50KB–200KB, recent, white background) and signature in JPEG format (50KB–70KB, black ink on white paper). Check file size limits strictly.
  6. Pay the application fee online before 12 May 2026 – fee payment deadline is two days after the application deadline.
  7. Review all fields carefully before final submission – once submitted, no changes are allowed to any information in the application.
  8. Download and save the confirmation page with your application reference number immediately after submission.
Pre-Application Document Checklist
  • ✔ Valid email address and mobile number (must be your own – all future communications go here)
  • ✔ Recent passport-size photo – JPEG, white background, 50KB–200KB
  • ✔ Signature scan – black ink, white paper, JPEG, 50KB–70KB
  • ✔ BSc Agriculture degree certificate and all semester marksheets
  • ✔ Category certificate in the correct KEA-prescribed format (Namo-D, Namo-E, or Namo-F as applicable)
  • ✔ Aadhaar card or valid government-issued photo identity
  • ✔ Rural candidate certificate (Namo-1 / Namo-2) if claiming rural reservation

  • ✔ Use only your own mobile number – all OTPs and future correspondence use this number
  • ✔ Dates are subject to change – always verify from the official KEA notification
  • ✔ This article is for informational purposes only and does not constitute official guidance

Three common rejection mistakes specific to this post:

  • Uploading a category certificate in an outdated or wrong format – KEA mandates specific Namo-D, Namo-E, or Namo-F formats; certificates in other state formats or employer-issued caste certificates are rejected at document verification.
  • Submitting a qualifying degree from a university not on the ICAR/AICTE approved list – even if your BSc Agriculture degree looks standard, verify your university’s recognition status before applying.
  • Using a shared or family member’s mobile number – since KEA sends all admit cards and result communications to the registered mobile, a number that is already registered in another person’s application can create system conflicts and missed communications.

Expert Tips

Apply in the first week – here is why this matters for KEA 2026

KEA’s portal historically experiences server overload in the last 48 hours before any recruitment deadline closes. For a 632-vacancy notification that will attract lakhs of BSc Agriculture graduates across Karnataka, the portal traffic in the final days of April and early May will be extremely high. Applying by 25 April 2026 gives you a buffer to re-login, correct any upload errors, and ensure your fee payment goes through without a payment gateway timeout. An incomplete application – even with payment attempted – will not be considered for shortlisting.

Read every page before filling – what this notification contains that candidates miss

This 13-page notification contains specific sub-clauses that many candidates overlook entirely. The Hyderabad-Karnataka (HK) region quota of 02 seats applies only to candidates who meet the HK domicile condition – applying without this clause and claiming HK seats leads to disqualification at document verification. Additionally, the notification specifies that candidates who are already in government service must submit a No Objection Certificate from their current employer at the time of application – service candidates who miss this step are routinely eliminated at the document verification stage despite scoring high marks.

Start preparation on day one – how to prioritise for this exam level

Paper-1 is a 300-mark General Studies paper with 0.75 negative marking. The smartest approach is to allocate 40% of daily study time to current affairs and Karnataka-specific topics (Karnataka history, geography, polity, rural development schemes) since these sub-areas tend to have the highest density of questions. Paper-2 will be subject-specific – while the detailed syllabus is yet to be announced, a BSc Agriculture curriculum covering crop sciences, soil science, entomology, plant pathology, and agricultural economics forms the reliable preparation base. Do not wait for the official Paper-2 syllabus announcement to begin core subject revision.

Most common rejection reason for Agriculture Officer type posts

The single most common reason for rejection at the document verification stage in Karnataka Group-B agriculture posts is the category certificate format mismatch. Karnataka uses its own prescribed Namo-D (SC/ST), Namo-E (Category-1), and Namo-F (Categories 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B) formats issued by the competent Tahsildar. Certificates obtained from an employer, a non-competent authority, or in a central government OBC format are rejected. Ensure your category certificate is issued by the Tahsildar of your current residence jurisdiction and is current (SC/ST certificates from Karnataka are permanent once issued, but OBC/backward class certificates must be current as per the notification).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the approximate in-hand salary after deductions for these posts?
The approximate in-hand take-home salary for the Assistant Agriculture Officer post is between ₹49,000 and ₹58,000 per month at entry level, after deducting NPS (10% of basic), professional tax, and group insurance. For the Agriculture Officer post, the take-home is approximately ₹52,000 to ₹62,000 per month. The actual amount varies depending on your posting city and applicable HRA tier. These figures are based on the 2024 revised Karnataka state pay scales announced in the notification.
What is the last date to apply online?
The last date to submit the online application is 10 May 2026. The fee payment deadline is 12 May 2026 – two days after the application closes. Candidates must ensure both the application submission and fee payment are completed before their respective deadlines. Applying early is strongly recommended to avoid server congestion near the deadline.
What are the total vacancies and post names?
A total of 632 vacancies have been announced under this notification. The posts are Agriculture Officer (Krushi Adhikari) with 79 vacancies (67 regular + 02 HK + 12 Sre.15 category posts) and Assistant Agriculture Officer (Sahayaka Krushi Adhikari) with 551 vacancies (468 Sre.85 + 83 Sre.15 posts). These are Group-B posts under the Karnataka Agriculture Department recruited through KEA.
What is the minimum educational qualification?
For Sre.85 posts (the majority – 535 vacancies), the minimum qualification is a BSc (Agriculture) or BSc (Honours) Agriculture degree from an ICAR or AICTE recognised university. For Sre.15 posts (97 vacancies), multiple alternative qualifications are accepted including B.Tech (Food Science & Technology), B.Tech (Agricultural Engineering), BSc (Horticulture), BSc (Agri Marketing & Cooperation), BSc (Agri Business Management), BSc (Agricultural Biotechnology), and equivalent streams listed in the notification.
What is the age limit for the general category (General Merit)?
General Merit (GM) candidates must be between 18 and 40 years of age as of the last date of application (10 May 2026). This means candidates born on or after 10 May 1986 are not yet 40 on the last date and are eligible, while candidates born before 10 May 1984 would exceed the 40-year ceiling. The minimum age of 18 means candidates born on or before 10 May 2008 are eligible on the lower end.
What is the age relaxation for OBC (2A/2B/3A/3B), SC, and ST candidates?
Karnataka does not use the central government OBC category. The equivalent categories here are 2A, 2B, 3A, and 3B – these candidates receive a 3-year relaxation, making the maximum age 43 years. SC and ST candidates receive 5 years of relaxation, making the maximum age 45 years. Category-1 candidates (Karnataka’s equivalent of the most backward classes) also receive relaxation up to 45 years. PwD candidates receive 10 years of relaxation with a maximum age of 50 years.
What is the application fee?
General Merit and OBC-equivalent categories (2A/2B/3A/3B) must pay ₹750 (₹500 application fee + ₹250 processing fee). SC/ST/Category-1/PwD/Ex-Servicemen/Women candidates must pay ₹500 (₹250 application fee + ₹250 processing fee). Special Abled (PwD) candidates pay only ₹250 as processing fee. All payments must be made online only – no offline fee payment is accepted. Fee once paid is non-refundable.
What is the selection process?
The selection process consists of two stages: first, a mandatory Kannada Language Test (qualifying in nature, 150 marks, scheduled for 06 June 2026), and second, a competitive written examination in Offline-OMR format with two papers of 300 marks each (07 June 2026). Candidates who qualify both stages are shortlisted for document verification, followed by a medical examination. There is no interview at any stage. Final merit is determined purely by competitive examination scores.
Can final year students apply?
No. This is an important distinction from many central government recruitments. The KEA notification explicitly states that candidates whose results are not yet declared as of the last date of application are not eligible. You must hold the qualifying degree certificate and marksheet at the time of applying. Candidates currently in their final semester or awaiting results cannot apply for this recruitment.
What documents are required for application?
At the time of online application, you need a recent passport-size photograph (JPEG, 50KB–200KB), a signature scan (JPEG, 50KB–70KB), your BSc Agriculture degree certificate and marksheets, category certificate in the KEA-prescribed format (Namo-D/E/F), and a valid government ID (Aadhaar preferred). Rural candidates and Kannada Medium candidates need their respective certificates. Ex-servicemen must attach discharge certificates. At document verification after shortlisting, all original documents must be produced in person.
Where can I find the admit card and result?
Admit cards (Hall Tickets) will be made available for download from the official KEA portal (cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea/) after the application process is complete. The portal’s official KEA X (Twitter) handle @KEA_KARNATAKA is mentioned in the notification as a source for all recruitment-related information. Results and merit lists will also be published on the same portal. Candidates are advised to save their application reference number as it will be needed to download the admit card.
Is there negative marking in the examination?
Yes. The competitive written examination carries a negative marking of 0.75 marks for every wrong answer. Each correct answer carries marks as per the paper’s total. There are 4 options per question. If a candidate leaves a question blank (uses the 5th option on the OMR sheet), no marks are deducted. A minimum score of 35 marks in the competitive examination is required to qualify – candidates below this threshold are not considered for the merit list regardless of their relative performance.
