Based on official advertisement by SSB (East) Recruitment Branch, New Delhi (No. 600/RC/SSB/Remust.CT(GD)-2026/2026 dated 22.05.2026). Verified: May 2026.
Quick Eligibility Check
- You are a serving Combatised CT (Tradesman) or CT (Orderly) in SSB with a minimum of 3 years of regular service completed as on 1st January 2026.
- Your APAR grading for the preceding 3 years (2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25) is not below “Good” benchmark – specifically, not below 04 numerical score in each APAR.
- You hold a Matriculation or equivalent educational qualification from a recognised board or institute.
- Your current medical category is SHAPE-I.
- You have a clean service record with no punishment in the preceding 3 years (for vacancy year 2026), and no DE/vigilance/disciplinary case pending or contemplated.
- Your age is below 35 years (UR/OBC) or below 40 years (SC/ST) as on 1st January 2026.
- You have not completed 3 years of continuous regular service in SSB as on 1st January 2026 – the cut-off date is fixed and no relaxation applies.
- Any of your 3 preceding APARs (2022-23, 2023-24, or 2024-25) carries a numerical grading below 04 – even one below-Good APAR makes you ineligible regardless of total service.
- Your current medical category is below SHAPE-I.
- A DE/vigilance or disciplinary case is currently pending or contemplated against you.
- You are a civilian employee, CAPF personnel from another force, or an SSB officer – this recruitment is exclusively for combatised CTs (Tradesmen/Orderlies) currently serving in SSB.
The most unique eligibility condition in this recruitment – and the one most serving CTs overlook – is the APAR grading requirement. All three preceding year APARs (2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25) must individually be at 04 or above. A single year of “Average” grading (below 04) disqualifies an otherwise fully eligible candidate.

Important Dates
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Advertisement Date | 22nd May 2026 |
| Last Date: Application to Unit | 20th June 2026 |
| Last Date: Unit to Ftr Hqr SSB | 30th June 2026 |
| Ftr Hqr to ARC (SHQ SSB Lakhimpur Kheri) | 1st July 2026 to 10th July 2026 |
| ARC to FHQ (Recruitment Branch) | 30th July 2026 |
| PST / PET / Written Exam / DME Date | To be intimated in due course |
Unlike most government recruitments with a single application deadline, this remusteration follows a five-stage forwarding chain – candidate to unit, unit to Frontier HQ, Frontier HQ to ARC, ARC to FHQ Recruitment Branch. Candidates must submit their applications to their unit well before 20th June 2026 to give their unit sufficient time for scrutiny and onward forwarding; applications that miss the unit deadline will not be entertained at any subsequent stage.
Vacancy and Category-wise Analysis
| Vacancy Year | SC | ST | UR | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 8 | 4 | 38 | 50 |
Of the 50 total vacancies, 38 are in the Unreserved (UR) category – the largest single block – followed by 8 for SC and 4 for ST. No OBC or EWS category is mentioned in this notification. The UR category dominates at 76% of total vacancies, meaning General category serving CTs who are otherwise eligible have the highest numerical probability of selection. With 50 total seats and a serving eligible pool estimated in the low hundreds across all SSB units (given the strict 3-year service, SHAPE-I, and minimum APAR requirements), the selection ratio is expected to be significantly better than open public recruitments – approximately 1 in 5 to 1 in 8 among candidates who clear all eligibility filters. ST candidates face the tightest pool with only 4 seats available.
Note The notification explicitly states that vacancies are subject to change and may increase or decrease without notice. DG, SSB reserves the right to cancel or postpone the recruitment without assigning any reason.
Salary and In-Hand Calculation
| Component | Approximate Amount | Remarks |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Pay (CT GD, Level-3, 7th CPC) | ₹21,700 | Entry level after remusteration |
| DA (current approx. rate) | ~₹10,000–₹11,000 | Varies with DA revisions |
| HRA (X/Y/Z class city) | ₹2,600–₹5,200 | Depends on posting location |
| Ration Allowance / Other Allowances | ~₹3,000–₹4,000 | As applicable |
| NPS Deduction (~10% of Basic) | –₹2,170 | Standard deduction |
| Approximate In-Hand per Month | ₹25,000–₹35,000 | Post-promotion, posting-dependent |
Compared to CT (Tradesman) pay at Level-2 (₹19,900 basic under 7th CPC), the CT (GD) post after remusteration offers approximately ₹1,800 higher basic pay per month – a modest direct salary gain. However, the real value of remusteration is the career trajectory: CT (GD) is eligible for further promotions to Head Constable, ASI, and Sub-Inspector cadre through departmental exams, a pathway not available to CT (Tradesman/Orderly). Candidates posted at X-class cities receive approximately ₹2,600 more per month in HRA compared to Z-class postings, a difference of over ₹31,000 annually.
Application Fee
No application fee is mentioned in the official notification. This is an internal departmental remusteration process – applications are submitted through the unit on a prescribed proforma at no cost to the candidate.
Age Limit
| Category | Upper Age Limit | Reference Date | Relaxation |
|---|---|---|---|
| UR / OBC | Below 35 years | 01.01.2026 | Nil |
| SC / ST | Below 40 years | 01.01.2026 | 5 years over UR limit |
Age calculation example: A UR/OBC serving CT must have been born on or after 2nd January 1991 to be below 35 years as on 1st January 2026. An SC/ST serving CT must have been born on or after 2nd January 1986 to satisfy the below-40 limit. No minimum age limit is specified – the 3-year service condition implicitly acts as the floor. No OBC category age relaxation beyond the standard UR limit is mentioned in this notification.
Physical Standard Test (PST) – Height and Chest Requirements
| Category of Candidate | Height (Male) | Height (Female) | Chest Unexpanded (Male) | Chest Expanded (Male) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| General (all states except below) | 170 cm | 157 cm | 80 cm | 85 cm |
| Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Dogras, Marathas; Assam, HP, J&K, Ladakh candidates | 165 cm | 155 cm | 78 cm | 83 cm |
| North-Eastern States (Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura) | 162.5 cm | 152.5 cm | 77 cm | 82 cm |
| Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) – Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong sub-divisions | 157 cm | 152.5 cm | 77 cm | 82 cm |
| All Scheduled Tribes candidates | 162.5 cm | 150 cm | 76 cm | 81 cm |
| ST candidates from Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) affected districts | 160 cm | 147.5 cm | 76 cm | 81 cm |
| ST candidates from North-Eastern States | 157 cm | 147.5 cm | 76 cm | 81 cm |
Height and chest are measured to one decimal place (e.g., 170.2 cm). Any candidate measuring even 0.1 cm below the prescribed minimum – for example, 169.9 cm where 170 cm is required – will be disqualified. Chest measurement expansion must be a minimum of 5 cm. Candidates claiming community-based height/chest relaxation must produce a domicile/community certificate from the concerned District Authority at the time of PST; without this certificate, the relaxation claim is rejected outright with no further correspondence. Weight/BMI: Candidates with a BMI below 18 or above 25 (as per the formula: weight in kg divided by height in metres squared) will be disqualified at the Detailed Medical Examination stage – BMI is not checked at PST itself.
Physical Efficiency Test (PET) – Running Standards
| Gender | Distance | Time Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Male | 5 km | 24 minutes |
| Female | 1.6 km | 8 minutes 30 seconds |
PST and PET are qualifying in nature – they carry no marks. Only candidates who clear both PST and PET proceed to the Written Examination. Female candidates must submit a self-declaration regarding pregnancy status before PST/PET; a candidate declared pregnant will be placed in temporary unfit status with her vacancy kept reserved and will be re-examined six weeks after confinement, subject to producing a medical fitness certificate.

Selection Process
Stage 1: Physical Standard Test (PST)
All candidates issued admit cards must undergo PST (height, chest, and biometric identification). Candidates not meeting the minimum height or chest requirement are disqualified immediately. An appeal for re-measurement of height and chest only can be made to the appellate authority on the same day – no second appeal is entertained.
Stage 2: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Candidates clearing PST undergo the running test: 5 km in 24 minutes for males and 1.6 km in 8 minutes 30 seconds for females. PST and PET are qualifying only and carry no marks. Injuries sustained during PET/PST are the candidate’s own responsibility.
Stage 3: Written Examination
A 2-hour written exam of 100 marks consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions in English/Hindi covering General Awareness, General Knowledge, Elementary Mathematics, Analytical Aptitude, and basic English/Hindi language ability. Minimum qualifying marks: 35% for General category and 33% for SC/ST/OBC. Final merit is determined solely on written exam marks – PST and PET carry no score weight.
Stage 4: Documentation and Detailed Medical Examination (DME/RME)
Candidates scoring above the cut-off in the written exam undergo documentation (original certificate verification) followed by a Detailed Medical Examination conducted as per Revised MHA Medical Guidelines. A Review Medical Examination (RME) is available for candidates declared unfit in DME, but the RME Board’s decision is final with no second appeal. Being declared fit in DME does not guarantee final selection – the final merit list is based strictly on written exam marks.
Your first 7 days after this notification reaches your unit:
- Verify your service record and obtain an attested copy of all three APARs (2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25) from your unit HR – confirm each carries a numerical score of 04 or above before applying.
- Obtain your latest SHAPE-I medical category certificate from your unit medical officer and get it attested.
- Fill in the prescribed application proforma (Appendix-A) completely – include UIN, rank, unit, sector, frontier, date of birth, total service, and previous chances availed.
- Request the No Objection Certificate (Annexure-B) and Service Certificate (Appendix-C) from your Unit Head – both are mandatory enclosures and take time to process through unit channels.
- If claiming height/chest relaxation due to community (e.g., Garhwali, NE State), obtain the community/domicile certificate from the District Authority immediately – this is needed at PST and takes the longest time to procure.
- Submit the complete application set (Appendix-A + Annexure-B + Appendix-C + Appendix-D checklist + all attested documents) to your unit head well before 20th June 2026 – last-day submissions risk not being processed within the unit’s 10-day forwarding window to Ftr Hqr.
- Confirm your mobile number and email ID are updated in unit records – all selection process dates will be communicated through unit channels and directly to the candidate.
Written Exam Syllabus

| Analytical Aptitude | Bilingual (English/Hindi) | |||

The notification does not specify subject-wise question distribution or negative marking rules. Candidates should prepare across all five areas with equal weightage. Minimum qualifying score is 35 marks (35%) for General and 33 marks (33%) for SC/ST/OBC – but qualifying alone does not guarantee selection; cut-off marks are determined by available vacancies after all stages are complete.

- Not enclosing the community/domicile certificate when claiming height relaxation (e.g., NE State or GTA category) – without this certificate at PST, the relaxation is denied and candidature cancelled on the spot with no correspondence entertained.
- Indicating previous chances availed incorrectly on the application – the notification explicitly states that appearing for multiple vacancy years counts as only one chance; underreporting previous attempts is treated as false declaration and may result in disqualification plus departmental action.
